Opinion: Liverpool are now closing in on signing one of the fastest players in the world…

Liverpool is on the verge of acquiring one of the fastest players globally. Jeremie Frimpong, known for his remarkable speed, is nearing a transfer to Liverpool.
Under Arne Slot, the team has excelled this season, clinching the Premier League title, yet there are still opportunities for enhancement, particularly in infusing more speed into the squad.
While Liverpool boasts quick players like Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz, none possess the exceptional pace that Salah once had, as his speed has diminished over time despite his overall improvement.
To progress, it is evident that Slot aims to incorporate faster athletes into his lineup, and Frimpong could be the first addition.
Reports from David Ornstein in The Athletic indicate that negotiations for the Dutch international are advancing, with Bayer Leverkusen anticipating a swift conclusion to the deal following their final Bundesliga match this weekend.
Frimpong’s speed is a significant asset, and despite some concerns regarding his defensive skills, his pace is undeniable and has been a focal point in discussions about his potential move to Liverpool.
From his early days, he has stood out as one of the fastest talents in England’s youth academies, a fact noted by Manchester City’s academy coach Paul Harsley five years ago when Frimpong impressed during a Premier League 2 match against Everton.
Harsley praised Frimpong for delivering an outstanding performance against Galloway, highlighting how his speed created numerous challenges for the more experienced player.
He expressed satisfaction that Frimpong managed to score, noting that they had anticipated his quickness would be a significant factor in the match.
This season, Frimpong has achieved a remarkable top speed of 36.34 km/h in the Bundesliga, placing him among the league’s top 10 fastest players, surpassing notable athletes like Alphonso Davies and Karim Adeyemi.
In UEFA competitions, only three players have recorded higher speeds than Frimpong this season: Achraf Hakimi, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappe.
The proximity of Frimpong’s speed to Mbappe’s underscores his exceptional pace.
For comparison, Virgil van Dijk recorded Liverpool’s fastest speed this season at 34.9 km/h, indicating that Frimpong would not only become Liverpool’s fastest player but also rank among the fastest globally, alongside Haaland and Mbappe.
Given the critical role of speed in contemporary football, Frimpong’s presence is set to enhance Liverpool’s performance significantly.
