Liverpool is set to make a £37 million offer for the top player in Africa, as the star forward is prepared to depart.
Liverpool is preparing to offer £37 million for the top African player, as the star forward is ready to transition to a new team.
The club is looking to secure Ademola Lookman, with reports indicating the amount Arne Slot’s team is willing to invest. However, TEAMtalk has insights suggesting that this bid may fall short.
Lookman struggled to make a significant impact during his time at Everton, netting four goals and providing two assists across 48 matches for Liverpool’s local rivals.
In contrast, he has thrived at Atalanta, where he has scored 49 goals and contributed 22 assists in 108 appearances, earning the title of player of the season for both the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.
The 27-year-old played a crucial role in Atalanta’s Europa League victory last season, scoring a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen.
Additionally, he was honored as the 2024 African Player of the Year at the Confederation of African Football Awards held in Marrakech in December.
This season, the Nigerian international has continued to excel at Atalanta, tallying 17 goals and seven assists in 30 competitive matches.
However, a public dispute with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini has made it likely that he will leave at the end of the season.
Liverpool has been monitoring Lookman despite his past with Everton, and according to Fichajes, the Premier League leaders are prepared to submit a bid.
The Reds are reportedly keen on the Nigerian forward, willing to invest €45 million (£37 million, $47 million) to enhance their attacking options.
Nevertheless, Liverpool will encounter competition from fellow Premier League clubs Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, both of which are also prepared to match the €45 million (£37 million, $47 million) offer.
Furthermore, Atalanta is inclined to sell Lookman to a foreign club, as the player himself is eager for a change.
The Daily Mirror has noted that Atalanta is inclined to transfer the forward to a club outside of Italy, particularly with interest from Serie A powerhouse Juventus.
Atalanta is seeking £54 million for Ademola Lookman, according to sources.
TEAMtalk reports that Liverpool’s bid of £37 million for Lookman is unlikely to succeed.
On February 24, our Italian football correspondent, Rudy Galetti, indicated that both Manchester United and Newcastle United have expressed interest in Lookman.
Additionally, sources have informed TEAMtalk that Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan are also among the clubs interested in the Nigerian talent.
Atalanta is prepared to part ways with Lookman, but they are demanding €65 million (£53.7 million, $68 million) for their key player.
Given the fierce competition for Lookman’s signature, it seems improbable that Liverpool will succeed with an offer that falls £17 million short of the asking price.
