Liverpool is reportedly set to compete with Newcastle for the acquisition of Como winger Assane Diao, despite the fact that the promising 19-year-old only joined the Italian side last summer.

With Mo Salah yet to finalize a contract extension, uncertainty regarding his future continues to loom, prompting Arne Slot’s team to actively pursue winger options.

Contracts for Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk are all due to expire at the conclusion of this season.

It is important to note that Liverpool may still opt to sign a new winger even if Salah remains, preparing for a future transition when he eventually departs.

As reported by CaughtOffside, both Liverpool and Newcastle are closely monitoring Diao, with potential moves anticipated in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The young talent made a significant impact in LaLiga last season with Real Betis and was initially a target for Brentford before joining Como for a club-record fee of €12 million (£10 million, $12.5 million) last summer.

Diao has made an impressive start in Italy under the guidance of new manager Cesc Fabregas, scoring five goals in eight Serie A matches thus far.

The report indicates that Liverpool views Diao as a viable option to succeed Salah. Meanwhile, Newcastle is seeking to bolster their right flank following Miguel Almiron’s exit, placing Diao on their radar.

Liverpool is actively exploring winger options, and TEAMtalk reports that the club remains optimistic about securing an extension for Salah, maintaining a composed approach to the situation.

It is well-known that Saudi clubs have shown considerable interest in the 32-year-old and have recently made inquiries regarding his potential transfer.

However, Liverpool is confident that Salah will prioritize discussions with them before considering offers from other clubs, allowing them to take their time in finalizing new terms, although updates are expected in the coming weeks.

Liverpool is exploring young winger options who could serve as long-term replacements for Salah, although this will be a challenging endeavor.

As previously reported, Liverpool showed significant interest in Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon last summer, but the Magpies ultimately prevented his departure.

The former Everton player was eager to make the move to Anfield at that time and continues to be on Liverpool’s radar. However, Newcastle is keen to retain Gordon and is expected to demand a substantial fee for his transfer.

Additionally, as we disclosed earlier this month, Liverpool is also considering Nice winger Mohamed-Ali Cho.

The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising talents in Ligue 1, having demonstrated his potential this season with five goals and three assists in 25 appearances.

Cho spent five years in Everton’s academy before leaving at the age of 16, a decision that sources have labeled as one of the most regrettable in the club’s recent history.

In a broader context, reports indicate that Liverpool is interested in two other Newcastle players alongside Gordon—striker Alexander Isak and full-back Lewis Hall.

Recent updates from the Times suggest that Liverpool’s interest in Isak is intensifying.

Newcastle is extremely reluctant to sell, but it has been indicated that Isak would consider a move to Liverpool if Newcastle fails to secure a Champions League spot. Arsenal is expected to be a strong competitor if Isak becomes available. Newcastle values their star striker at £150 million.

Regarding Hall, CaughtOffside reports that he is also on Liverpool’s radar. The 20-year-old is seen as a potential successor to Andy Robertson, who is having a challenging season with the club.

In other developments, Liverpool is reportedly preparing to make a significant bid for Real Madrid winger Brahim Diaz.

According to Fichajes, Liverpool has identified Diaz as a suitable candidate to fill Salah’s role at Anfield.

The report from the Spanish news outlet has stated that the Merseyside club has initiated “informal contact” to inquire about the status of the Morocco international winger.
