Liverpool Update: Marc Guehi news today as a £35m agreement is reached.

Liverpool is exploring various options as they aim to strengthen their centre-back lineup, according to sources close to the club who spoke to Football Insider.

Marc Guehi is high on their priority list as he approaches the final year of his contract with Crystal Palace, although it is understood that several other alternatives are being evaluated.

The club has opted to recruit a prominent new centre-back due to uncertainties surrounding Ibrahima Konate’s future, while Virgil van Dijk is nearing the end of his playing career.

Football Insider reported last week (18 June) that the Reds are “somewhat worried” about Real Madrid’s interest in the French centre-back, who has only a year remaining on his contract.

Quansah’s sale enhances Liverpool’s defensive budget.

Liverpool’s budget for centre-backs has significantly increased following the £35million transfer of Jarell Quansah to Erik ten Hag’s Bayer Leverkusen.

Guehi has been on Liverpool’s radar for quite some time, and Crystal Palace recognizes that this summer’s transfer window may be their last opportunity to profit from his departure before he potentially leaves on a free transfer.

The FA Cup winner meets many criteria for Liverpool’s transfer decision-makers, thanks to his considerable Premier League and international experience, along with his young age of just 24.

He has attracted interest from Newcastle and Tottenham in previous transfer windows, with both clubs having made bids in the past.

Guehi transferred to Palace from Chelsea in 2021 and has since made 115 appearances for the Selhurst Park team, and he is now a 23-cap England international.

Gomez decides on Liverpool future.

In other news, Football Insider has disclosed (23 June) that Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is content at Anfield despite links to newly-promoted Leeds United and Sunderland.

It is believed that the adaptable 28-year-old still has a significant role to fulfill under Arne Slot at Liverpool following Quansah’s departure.

According to sources, Gomez is not in a hurry to leave Liverpool and is eager to maintain his fitness and availability for the 2025-26 season.
