Liverpool’s Starting XI against Real Madrid: confirmed lineup, team updates, and latest injury news for today’s Champions League match.
Arne Slot faces a significant choice regarding the £115 million disappointment, Florian Wirtz.
Once again, Liverpool will be without Alexander Isak for tonight’s crucial Champions League challenge against Real Madrid.
The £125 million British record signing has been sidelined for the last three matches across all competitions due to a groin injury sustained against Eintracht Frankfurt two weeks ago, and he did not participate in training on Monday afternoon.
Isak is not alone on the injury list, as Alisson Becker and Jeremie Frimpong are also out, with Arne Slot confirming on Monday: “All three are unavailable for tomorrow. Jeremie and Alisson will both miss Sunday’s match.
“With Alex, we need to wait and see. He will definitely not start on Sunday, but he might be included in the squad. He is still not training with the team, so we have to wait and see.”
In Isak’s absence, Hugo Ekitike will continue to spearhead the attack and scored in the Reds’ last Champions League match against his former club, Frankfurt.
Additionally, Ryan Gravenberch is back in the mix after recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the vital 2-0 victory over Aston Villa. Curtis Jones was able to train with his teammates at Melwood on Monday but remains uncertain for the clash against the Spanish giants.
Arne Slot must decide on Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez, two summer acquisitions who have had a tough start at Anfield. Both were left out for the win over Villa and will need to fight for a starting position against Madrid.
Giovanni Leoni continues to be unavailable for the foreseeable future.
Liverpool XI (4-2-3-1): Mamardashvili; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Ekitike
Doubts: Jones
Injured: Isak, Alisson, Frimpong, Leoni
