Liverpool close in on agreeing personal terms to sign £70m star, he’s Mac Allister 2.0 – Report…

Liverpool is nearing an agreement on personal terms to sign a £70m star, who is being compared to Mac Allister – opinion
When Liverpool last clinched the league title, their transfer window lacked significant excitement. The most prominent signing was Diogo Jota from Wolves.
This time, however, the situation is markedly different. The Reds are aggressively pursuing their targets and have already made a substantial impact.
In 2025, Liverpool has already exceeded their spending from that previous window, initially acquiring Jeremie Frimpong to take over from Trent Alexander-Arnold, followed by the signing of £116m player Florian Wirtz.
Further additions are anticipated, including Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez, while Alexander Isak remains a target for a move to Anfield. Just imagine that.
Once the Kerkez transfer is finalized, the Reds may shift their focus to another defender from the Premier League.
Liverpool aims to enhance their defense.
Frimpong has joined to fortify the right side, and soon, Kerkez will be brought in to strengthen the left flank.
The latest updates indicate that Liverpool has agreed to a £40m deal to sign the Hungarian full-back to Merseyside.
Reports claim that the player has already completed his medical with the club and has been seen at the training facility.
With that transfer settled, Liverpool can now pursue a deal for Crystal Palace defender, Marc Guehi.
Recently, it was reported that Richard Hughes and his team were preparing an offer to acquire the England centre-back, and discussions are now said to be progressing positively on the player’s side.
According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool is now ‘very close’ to finalizing an agreement with the player regarding personal terms.
It is widely believed that Guehi will be permitted to leave Selhurst Park this summer, as he has only one year left on his current contract.
The Eagles value him at £70m, but given his contract situation, they may have to sell for approximately £45m.
Liverpool faces significant competition for the defender’s signature, particularly from Newcastle United.
How Guehi might mirror Mac Allister at Anfield
Liverpool has achieved significant success by acquiring players from other Premier League teams. The previously mentioned Jota, despite his injury record, has performed admirably, netting 65 goals in 182 appearances.
In recent times, Alexis Mac Allister has emerged as one of their most valuable acquisitions.
During the summer of 2023, the Reds sought to bolster their midfield after the departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho. They accomplished this by signing Mac Allister, a World Cup champion, from Brighton for a fee of £35m.
This amount has proven to be a steal. The Argentine is not only one of the most reliable players in the Liverpool squad but also ranks among the most dependable in the entire Premier League.
His fellow players share this sentiment, as the midfielder has been nominated for the PFA’s Player of the Season award alongside Mohammed Salah.
This recognition is a fitting tribute for the South American, who had an outstanding season in the midfield.
A natural leader, he certainly set an example with his performances, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 49 matches across all competitions.
Crucially, Mac Allister adapted quickly to Liverpool, largely due to his previous success in England with Brighton.
Guehi finds himself in a similar position. Being English will undoubtedly aid his adjustment period, but his prior experience in the Premier League will make this a genuinely low-risk signing for Slot and Co.
In the past year, the Eagles star has truly begun to make an impact with his performances.
Since his development at Chelsea, many have predicted a bright future for the defender, and he could fulfill that potential by transferring to Anfield this summer.
He is worthy of a move, having been praised as “England’s best centre-back” by one content creator after his performances at last summer’s European Championships.
In doing so, he maintained a flawless record, demonstrating his capability to excel in crucial matches. Similar to Mac Allister, he exhibits remarkable consistency.
Throughout the entire Premier League season, he did not commit a single mistake that resulted in a goal and only made two errors that led to a shot.
Indeed, since joining Palace, he has only made two mistakes that resulted in a goal and four that led to a shot in the league. According to football writer Stuart James, he is an “incredible” defender.
For further context, Ibrahima Konate made one mistake that led to a goal last season and two that resulted in a shot.
Since his transfer to Liverpool, he has committed five errors leading to a goal in the top division. Based on this evidence, Guehi appears to be slightly more astute and certainly more reliable.
Like Mac Allister, he could represent a risk-free bargain acquisition that would enhance Liverpool’s performance. If a deal can be struck for £45m, it would be an obvious choice.
