Liverpool £40m exit agreement for “real asset” would be massive transfer mistake…

Liverpool’s £40m exit deal for a “real asset” would be a significant transfer blunder.
So far, Liverpool has experienced an astonishing summer transfer window, but there will come a time when the Reds must start to balance their finances.
With a record £116m deal for Florian Wirtz and an additional £70m spent on acquiring Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, the Reds will need to offload several players to stay compliant with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.
Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Nat Phillips have departed on permanent transfers, with deals potentially amounting to £31m.
Jarell Quansah is also close to joining Bayer Leverkusen for approximately £35m.
Further departures may be imminent, with Darwin Nunez likely to leave amid interest from Serie A champions Napoli and clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
Harvey Elliott could also be on the move this summer, as he has not been a consistent starter under Arne Slot.
Harvey Elliott linked with Wolves and Brighton.
Elliott has been associated with a transfer to other Premier League teams. Recent reports indicate that Brighton and Hove Albion are among the leading candidates for the England Under-21 talent.
The Seagulls are said to be prepared to shatter their club transfer record to acquire Elliott, while Wolves have also shown interest as they seek to replace Matheus Cunha following his £62.5m transfer to Manchester United.
As of this writing, Elliott has netted five goals in six matches at the Under-21 Euros, including the first goal just five minutes into the final against Germany.
Regarding his future, Elliott acknowledged earlier this month, stating: “It’s just a situation that me and the team on my behalf have to have a conversation about, because I’m coming to an age now where I’m 22, I’m going to be 23 next season, and I don’t really want to be wasting years of my career, because it’s a short career.
“My goal is to enhance myself and become the best version of who I am, as well as the best player I can be. If that means moving elsewhere, then I will have to make that choice, and I just need to wait and see what unfolds.”
A £40m departure for Harvey Elliott would be a misstep.
While Liverpool could benefit financially from a £40m deal for Elliott, it might have negative repercussions in the future.
His performances during the Under-21 Euros showcase his talent, and he has proven to be a valuable substitute for Arne Slot since the Dutchman’s arrival at Merseyside. He has been referred to as a “genuine asset”.
The addition of Wirtz may complicate things for Elliott, but given his youth and his lifelong support for Liverpool, his primary desire would likely be to stay at Anfield. Last season, he netted five goals and contributed three assists in a limited role.
One of those goals was a crucial late winner against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes, demonstrating his capacity to perform in high-pressure situations.
Despite his young age, he has already secured multiple trophies with the Reds, and that experience in winning can be extremely beneficial.
His adaptability should not be overlooked. Should Liverpool choose to sell him, it is essential to include a buyback clause in the contract.
Former Liverpool player Joe Cole recently commented on him: “I admire the kid; he plays the game the right way. I am looking forward to his future.
He has done an excellent job for Liverpool, but if he opts to move on, there are opportunities for further advancement. His passion is evident every week.
“He can easily fit into any team outside the top six, and after two years at that level, he can return to compete at Liverpool’s standard.
“He began his journey as a young player at Fulham, but his development has been gradual. Clubs from across Europe will undoubtedly be seeking Harvey Elliott’s agent’s contact information.”
