Growing belief star is ‘destined’ to join Newcastle as St. James’ officials travel to club – report…
Growing speculation suggests a star player is ‘destined’ to join Newcastle as officials from St. James’ make a trip to the club – according to reports.
Newcastle United is already strategizing for the upcoming summer transfer window following a disappointing Premier League season.
This was intended to be a year of stability and advancement.
However, Newcastle currently sits in 13th place with two matches remaining, having secured only 13 victories out of 36 Premier League games.
After last year’s Carabao Cup victory and qualification for the Champions League, this season has felt like a significant regression.
The summer presents an opportunity to rectify this.
Eddie Howe faces a complex challenge this summer. At first glance, the club’s financial situation appears to be the healthiest it has been in a while. Newcastle reported a post-tax profit of £34.7m for 2025, a remarkable turnaround from previous losses, with total revenue hitting £335m.
However, fans should be cautious about interpreting these headline figures too optimistically.
The club’s chief financial officer has clarified that the profit — largely driven by a £133m sale-and-leaseback deal involving St James’ Park — does not necessarily mean there will be more funds available for transfers.
Wage expenses continue to be a constraint, as Newcastle’s salary structure remains significantly lower than that of the traditional top six clubs.
The financial environment is also evolving.
The Premier League’s current financial regulations, known as PSR, will be replaced at the beginning of next season by a new Squad Cost Ratio system, which will restrict clubs to spending 85% of their football revenue on transfer fees, wages, and agent fees.
Newcastle must navigate this transition with care, and balancing squad improvements while adhering to these new rules will require strategic market maneuvers.
Additionally, there is the consideration of potential departures.
Anthony Gordon has been one of the few consistent performers this season, but the 25-year-old seems to be seeking a move, with Bayern Munich reportedly in discussions.
Losing him would represent a major setback — not only in terms of football but also commercially and regarding the dressing room atmosphere that Howe has diligently cultivated.
Sandro Tonali is another key player who might depart Newcastle amid significant interest from clubs like Arsenal, yet as speculation intensifies around the Italian, Howe’s team may have identified their perfect substitute.
Lamine Camara is ‘destined’ to join Newcastle from Monaco.
According to TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey, there is a ‘growing belief’ within football circles that 22-year-old Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara is ‘destined’ to make the move to St James’ Park this summer.
Newcastle officials have made multiple trips to France throughout 2026 to evaluate the Senegal international, and the Magpies are reportedly among the clubs demonstrating the most serious interest.
Those same scouts were present at the Stade Louis II last weekend to observe Camara during Monaco’s 1-0 defeat to Lille.
His profile aligns perfectly with what Howe requires.
Camara is athletic, tactically astute, and can operate as either a six or an eight.
Despite his youth, he already boasts 30 senior caps for Senegal, and his performances in Ligue 1 this season have garnered attention from across Europe.
Monaco has him under contract until 2029 and values him at approximately £39m — a figure that is not easily negotiable, but not out of reach for a club with Newcastle’s financial capabilities.
However, the competition is intense.
Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal have all monitored Camara for a considerable time, while Chelsea, Tottenham, Brighton, Brentford, and West Ham have also dispatched scouts to observe him this season, resulting in a lengthy queue.
Nevertheless, TEAMtalk asserts that Newcastle currently leads the pursuit, citing the frequency and determination with which the club has sought him as proof that this interest is more than just casual.
The ability to finalize the deal — while overseeing possible exits, adjusting to new financial regulations, and maintaining the wage structure — will reveal much about the true progress this club has made.
