Borussia Dortmund star is currently under contract at until 2029.

Liverpool will be stepping up their preparations for future transfer windows, with January edging closer. The Reds have spent heavily over the past two summer windows in an attempt to rebuild a squad capable of competing for major honours.

However, with Julian Ward now back as sporting director, Liverpool could look to address key areas in future windows.

Borussia Dortmund versatile player Daniel Svensson has, however, played down speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool or Arsenal.

The Sweden international has impressed since joining Borussia Dortmund, initially on loan from Nordsjaelland in February 2025. He has racked up 73 appearances for the Bundesliga club, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists.

The 24-year-old was linked with a move to the Premier League during the summer, with Liverpool and Arsenal reportedly interested.

However, Svensson, who can play at left-back or left midfield, has admitted he was aware of the speculation but insisted he was never close to leaving Dortmund.

“I saw something about it. But nothing I’ve heard anything more about,” he told SVT Sport. “No, (I was not close to moving). Not at all, quite honestly.

“Of course it can be fun to read. It was nothing concrete and I hadn’t heard anything more than what was in the newspaper. I feel good in Dortmund and look forward to continuing my journey there.”

Svensson is under contract at Dortmund until 2029, while Liverpool signed Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth for £40million in the summer of 2025 as a long-term successor to Andy Robertson.

However, the Reds could still target another left-back in 2027. Kostas Tsimikas returned from a season-long loan at AS Roma and has replaced Robertson following his free transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, but the Greek defender is out of contract next summer.

Kerkez’s performances have also come under scrutiny. Liverpool also have Luke Chambers, Owen Beck and Calum Scanlon as recognised left-backs.

Chambers impressed new head coach Andoni Iraola during pre-season, while Beck is sidelined with a long-term injury and Scanlon is on loan at Cardiff City.
