Arsenal is on the verge of finalizing a deal for ‘world-class’ midfielder Martin Zubimendi before the end of May, as reported by journalist Ben Jacobs.

The agreement is reportedly ‘almost finalized in principle.’ This season has been another near-miss for Arsenal, who are set to finish second in the Premier League for the third year in a row, this time falling short to Liverpool instead of Manchester City.

The team also faced early exits from both domestic cups, missing out on trophy opportunities.

Their hopes for silverware were largely focused on the Champions League, but they were eliminated in the semifinals by Paris Saint-Germain with a 3-0 aggregate score.

Despite Mikel Arteta’s efforts at the Emirates, he has not secured a trophy since the 2019 FA Cup.

As the transfer window approaches, Arsenal is looking to strengthen their squad, particularly in attack and midfield.

The club has been tracking Zubimendi for several months; he has spent his entire senior career at Real Sociedad and has emerged as one of La Liga’s top holding midfielders, contributing to his team’s European ambitions.

Former teammate Kieran Tierney has praised Zubimendi as ‘world-class’ due to his exceptional skills.

With Liverpool previously interested in the Spanish international, Zubimendi is expected to leave Sociedad this summer.

According to Ben Jacobs on The Done Deal Show, Arsenal is now ready to finalize the transfer for Zubimendi.

He mentioned, ‘Regarding Zubimendi, I have been informed that an agreement in principle is nearly finalized.

I would be surprised if we reach the end of May without hearing that Zubimendi has joined Arsenal. Internally, Arsenal is confident that this deal is essentially complete.

The reason for their caution in discussing it is that Liverpool also believed they had secured the player.

Until the contract is signed, Arsenal is exercising extreme caution, but they believe that all aspects regarding the contract duration, terms, and payment related to the release clause are in place and ready to proceed.

It’s simply a matter of finalizing the paperwork. I believe there is a very high likelihood that within the next few weeks, Zubimendi will be officially announced as an Arsenal player.’

It remains uncertain whether Arsenal will finalize the deal, but Zubimendi would enhance the quality and depth of their midfield.

If players like Jorginho leave in the summer, acquiring Zubimendi would be a logical move for a team aiming to compete for major titles once again.
