Newcastle United is actively seeking more creativity in their attack and has compiled an extensive list of potential targets. One of the most promising young forwards in the Premier League may now be accessible before the September 1 deadline.

The Magpies have previously shown interest in Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri, a 19-year-old who has just returned from a challenging loan at Marseille and is facing uncertainty regarding his chances for regular playtime with the current Premier League champions.

As reported by Football Insider’s Harri Burton, a significant development has occurred, as Newcastle has effectively received permission to pursue Nwaneri, with Arsenal open to allowing him to leave on loan.

“Newcastle United have been granted the green light to acquire one of Arsenal’s most talented prospects before the transfer window closes,” Burton stated. “Sources indicate that Mikel Arteta’s team is focusing on a loan arrangement for Nwaneri for the 2026-27 season, preferring not to sell him at this moment.

“There is recognition that the 19-year-old requires consistent playing time at this stage of his career, which he can certainly obtain at St James’ Park.”

Earlier reports suggested that discussions between Newcastle and Arsenal took place earlier in the transfer window, with the Gunners open to a temporary loan, which could provide the Magpies with a viable path to finalize the deal.

“Several clubs, including the Magpies and Everton, continue to express interest in Nwaneri’s signature, and there remains time to finalize a deal,” Burton noted.

During his loan at Marseille last season, Nwaneri netted two goals and provided one assist before eventually losing his place in the lineup.

Despite this challenging period in France, Arsenal is reportedly reluctant to agree to a permanent transfer, preferring instead to see him gain regular playing time elsewhere, in hopes that he will develop into a stronger player and eventually secure a spot in the Gunners’ squad.

It is accurate to say that Newcastle has experienced a significant decline in creativity due to the exits of Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes, as noted by Burton, who mentioned that there is “ample opportunity for competition at Newcastle.”

However, no agreements have been finalized yet, and it remains uncertain whether Nwaneri would enhance the current lineup or merely act as a bench player for the Magpies.
