Liverpool told VAR made major mistake as Alexander Isak penalty row erupts vs Arsenal…

Liverpool has been informed that VAR made a significant error as the penalty controversy involving Alexander Isak against Arsenal escalates.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher expressed his frustration after VAR failed to grant a penalty against Arsenal. Carragher was outraged that the video assistant referee did not recognize a penalty appeal involving Jurrien Timber, who appeared to have tugged on Reds striker Alexander Isak’s shirt as he tried to head the ball into the net. Bradley Barcola delivered a dangerous cross that narrowly missed the Sweden international, but replays showed that the Dutch defender had indeed grabbed Isak’s shirt. Liverpool found themselves trailing within 20 minutes when Kai Havertz scored from close range, taking advantage of a mistake in the Reds’ defensive distribution.

In response to this setback, Andoni Iraola’s squad intensified their efforts, putting pressure on the Premier League champions. However, the discussion at halftime focused on Andy Madley’s decision not to award Liverpool a penalty, which could have allowed them to equalize. Carragher remarked: “One of the league’s top goalscorers is pulled back seven yards from the goal, preventing him from heading the ball—why should he have to exaggerate? VAR, do your job.”

Carragher’s comments came after Daniel Sturridge suggested that Liverpool might have had a stronger case for a penalty if Isak had exaggerated the contact. Sturridge stated: “If he [Isak] had made more of it, it would have been a penalty. I don’t think he exaggerated enough… It’s clear and obvious.”

After halftime, Gary Neville noted that Isak’s reaction was “strange.” He commented: “The analysts at halftime mentioned that Isak shouldn’t have to exaggerate his penalty appeal from the first half.”

“It’s actually unusual not to react more strongly. When you’re pulled back just before scoring, you typically complain vigorously. Isak’s reaction was quite peculiar.

Ian Wright was among those representing Arsenal during Sky Sports’ coverage. However, the former Gunners legend could not ignore the fact that the North London team managed to avoid a significant moment without consequence.

He remarked: “He shouldn’t have to emphasize it further. We can all see it. As an Arsenal supporter, I’m pleased we got away with that. Unless I’m held back, I will head it as much as possible. When he pulled him, it was just enough for him to go down.”

After Brighton and Hove Albion avenged their Carabao Cup exit against Manchester City earlier in the week, the Seagulls dealt a setback to Enzo Maresca’s team’s Premier League title hopes with a 1-0 win.

A victory for Arsenal would increase their lead in the title race to three points, following City’s consecutive defeats in the top flight, including a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa the week before. Liverpool aimed to achieve a momentum-building win after an impressive streak under Andoni Iraola.

Chelsea’s victory over Manchester United had propelled Xabi Alonso’s team into the top four at the expense of the Reds.
