‘Simply not good enough’

Liverpool supporters have criticised Andoni Iraola’s decision to deploy Ryan Gravenberch as a number 10 in the Champions League win over Villarreal, with several fans arguing the midfielder struggled in the role before being shifted to right-back.

Gravenberch began the match in an advanced midfield position alongside Trey Nyoni and Alexis Mac Allister, but was later moved into defence as the hosts recovered from a 2-0 deficit to win 4-3.

The experiment drew negative reaction on social media, with many questioning the tactical choice.

Dale wrote: “Gravenberch was dreadful.” AK added: “Gravenberch is a passenger on the pitch.

“He’s not covering the ground and he’s letting opponents run around him. He’s simply not good enough.

“We need to sell him and sign a proper DM. I’m done with him.”

Temoor noted that Gravenberch was “playing the 10 & been missing,” while Rogan Meister asked: “Who the hell suggested to use Gravenberch as a 10?? Very poor decision.”

Further comments included “Gravenberch as a 10 is disgusting,” “Gravenberch cannot play as a 10 or at RB again,” and “Gravenberch passenger in there.”

The criticism focused on Gravenberch’s influence in the first half, when Liverpool conceded twice and appeared disorganised.
