Arsenal is gearing up for a record-setting £128m transfer of Julian Alvarez.

Atletico Madrid has allegedly reached an agreement for Jonathan David, but this development is not anticipated to affect Arsenal’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez.

Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Atletico has come to terms with Juventus for David’s transfer.

Additionally, it has been reported that the Canadian forward will move to the LaLiga club on a loan basis, which includes an option to purchase at the conclusion of the season.

Given David’s versatility to play across the front three positions, there have been suggestions that he might be a substitute for Alvarez.

However, Spanish outlet Marca has dismissed this notion, asserting that David is viewed as an asset to enhance Atletico’s attacking lineup, which will feature both Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth.

The report further mentions that ‘unless there are any last-minute surprises’, Alvarez is expected to remain with Atletico following Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

This news is likely to be disappointing for Arsenal, as the 26-year-old has been a coveted target for Mikel Arteta throughout the summer, but the Gunners’ manager was informed by the Argentine that he prefers not to return to England.

“Currently, the likelihood of Julian Alvarez joining Arsenal is low,” stated David Ornstein from The Athletic on TNT Sports.

“Atletico Madrid would be open to negotiating with Arsenal. The Gunners are willing to establish a club-to-club agreement, but they need the player to express a desire to join them.”

“Alvarez has not indicated any interest in making the move at this time. He has communicated with Mikel Arteta and expressed his reluctance to come.”

“That could change, as these situations are always fluid, so I don’t want to rule it out, but as of now, there is no progress.”

In an additional twist, although Alvarez was absent from training last week and missed Atletico’s 3-1 victory over Sevilla, he rejoined the squad on Sunday and may participate in the upcoming match against Athletic.

Atletico’s sporting director, Matheu Alemany, stated: “He practiced yesterday, and we are optimistic about his swift recovery so he can participate in the upcoming La Liga match.”
