Jeff Stelling offers his score prediction for the Liverpool and Chelsea clash scheduled for Sunday.

Jeff Stelling reveals his expectations for the score in the Liverpool vs Chelsea game taking place on Sunday.

Stelling believes Liverpool will achieve something against Chelsea this weekend that no other Premier League team has accomplished this season.

Arne Slot’s squad returns from the October international break sitting at the top of the league, while Chelsea has also made a strong start, currently positioned in fourth place.

Interestingly, both teams boast a perfect away record in the 2024/25 season thus far, but the former Sky Sports presenter anticipates that Enzo Maresca’s team will lose that distinction by 6:30 PM on Sunday.

Stelling’s expected outcome

While discussing his Premier League predictions on talkSPORT, Stelling’s forecast aligns with the historical context of recent encounters between the two clubs.

The 69-year-old remarked: “We have the league leaders facing the team in fourth, which has caught many off guard following Chelsea’s disappointing pre-season.

“Liverpool possesses a wealth of attacking options, yet their success this season has largely stemmed from a formidable defense, having conceded only two league goals and recorded five clean sheets in seven matches.

“Historically, five of the last six league encounters between these teams have ended in draws. It’s possible that history will repeat itself. I predict a 1-1 draw between Liverpool and Chelsea.”

Close contest anticipated based on history

Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Chelsea in their last meeting at Anfield in January stands out as an anomaly in their recent matchups.

Remarkably, that was the only instance in their last nine encounters across all competitions where the teams were not tied after 90 minutes.

As Stelling noted, the previous five league meetings before that lopsided result had all ended in draws, and the strong performances of both teams leading up to this weekend’s match indicate that a closely contested game is likely.

A crucial advantage for us is that Chelsea will be missing two key defenders, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella, due to suspensions.

This situation presents an opportunity for the Reds to exploit any potential disarray in the Blues’ defensive line, given their attacking strength.

We predict a hard-fought 2-1 victory at home, which will ensure Slot’s team remains at the top of the table by the conclusion of Sunday.
