Jamie Carragher has conveyed a message to Trent Alexander-Arnold amidst ongoing contract negotiations with Liverpool.

As Liverpool engages in contract discussions, Jamie Carragher has shared a message directed at Trent Alexander-Arnold.

As it stands, Liverpool has not yet secured a new contract for Trent Alexander-Arnold, which means the defender could potentially engage with foreign clubs starting in January. Carragher has advised him to take inspiration from Arne Slot.

Despite expressing his desire to captain Liverpool in the future, Alexander-Arnold, 25, has not yet committed to the club, raising concerns among fans about his future following the expiration of his contract next summer.

Having joined Liverpool at the age of six, Alexander-Arnold made his first-team debut under former manager Jurgen Klopp in October 2016.

Since then, he has established himself as a vital player for the team and is widely regarded as one of the top right-backs in the world.

Some supporters worry that Klopp’s departure at the end of last season may have implications for the squad, particularly as Alexander-Arnold faces significant changes for the first time since becoming a senior player.

During his 17-year career at Liverpool, Carragher played under six different managers and shared insights in an exclusive interview with Liverpool.com about how this experience could benefit the 25-year-old.

“I enjoyed it. I had to adapt. I transitioned from the traditional boot room to a Frenchman in Gerard Houlier,” Carragher noted.

“Houlier was part of France’s World Cup-winning team and had previously served as the technical director.

“He wasn’t even managing for a few years before taking the role, so the club made a bold decision to shift in a new direction.

“I embraced every change and viewed it as a valuable opportunity to learn. I consistently performed well, and new managers like Gerard Houlier and Rafa Benitez took a particular interest in my development.”

I viewed it as a chance. To be candid, as a local player, I’m not sure if Trent shares my perspective, but I didn’t feel as connected to the manager as some of the other players did.

Trent’s experience might differ, given his long tenure with Jurgen Klopp. My time with Roy Evans was relatively brief, lasting only a couple of years.

Carragher made his Liverpool debut under Roy Evans in January 1997 and subsequently played for managers such as Houlier (1998-2004), Benitez (2004-2010), Hodgson (2010-2011), Dalglish (2011-2012), and finally Rodgers before retiring in May 2014.

The Liverpool icon believes that his commitment to the club he cherished above all else shaped his professional journey.

“When people mention ‘playing for the manager,’ I never played for any specific manager. I played for the club,” Carragher remarked.

“That was my perspective, especially as a local player who has been with the club since the age of nine. Regardless of who the manager was, I was determined to give my all.

“It wasn’t a matter of the manager losing my commitment; he probably never had it in the first place. Every week, every day on the training ground, I aimed to perform at my best for Liverpool Football Club as a local player.

Therefore, managerial changes didn’t significantly impact me. My focus was always on what was best for the club.”

Alexander-Arnold is not the only player approaching the end of his contract, as Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are also set to be out of contract next summer.

Given his age, Alexander-Arnold is the priority, although he has been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid.

When asked about his contract situation, Alexander-Arnold has emphasized his preference for keeping personal matters private.

The absence of updates has caused some discomfort among fans, including Carragher, but Alexander-Arnold suggested that the delay in negotiations is not due to him.

Alexander-Arnold expressed, “I have consistently stated my desire to lead the club as captain. Achieving that goal is beyond my control. My primary focus is to be a Liverpool player this season, at the very least.”
