Newcastle has reached an agreement to acquire Ajax’s Sean Steur for a total package fee of €25 million.

Reports indicate that Newcastle is set to sign Ajax’s Sean Steur for £23 million.

HERE WE GO! Newcastle has finalized a deal to sign Ajax talent Seun Steur for a €25 million package fee.

The 18-year-old midfielder will be joining the Magpies from Ajax, with the agreement finalized overnight, and Newcastle is preparing for his medical examination next.

The deal includes a €24 million fixed fee, with an additional €3 million in add-ons and a sell-on clause included.

Newcastle’s summer transfer strategy seems to be gaining momentum, with another European talent expected to join this week.

Confirmation arrived on Sunday night regarding Bazoumana Toure’s £43 million transfer from Bundesliga club Hoffenheim, providing Newcastle with a crucial replacement for Anthony Gordon.

Following successful signings in France and Germany, including goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen and Toure, the Netherlands appears to be the next target for securing another promising young player.

Sean Steur is poised to become the third summer signing if the reports from Holland are accurate.

Is Ajax talent heading to Newcastle?

According to the Dutch publication AD, Newcastle United is on the verge of signing Ajax’s Sean Steur.

Late on Monday night, journalist Johan Inan reported that Newcastle has reached a preliminary agreement valued at €27 million (£23 million) for the 18-year-old midfielder.

A five-year contract is reportedly on the table, and it is expected that Steur will depart from Ajax’s training camp to undergo a medical examination in Tyneside in the ‘coming days’ before finalizing the transfer.

AD notes that this move comes as a ‘major surprise,’ as the talented Dutch player was anticipated to sign a new long-term contract with Ajax.

The tall and technically skilled midfielder made 19 league appearances for the Eredivisie champions last season, also featuring three times in the UEFA Champions League against Qarabag, Olympiacos, and Villarreal.

Exploring agency connections and signs of significant potential

Upon further investigation, it is intriguing to identify who represents Steur, who seems to be the third summer signing if the strong reports from the Netherlands are accurate.

Steur is managed by THE TEAM, a rebranded agency that was formerly known as Wasserman. THE TEAM represents notable players such as Lewis Hall, Tino Livramento, and Harvey Barnes, as well as Newcastle manager Eddie Howe and key target Johan Manzambi.

While connections with an agency can only take negotiations so far, it certainly benefits Newcastle’s chances of acquiring Manzambi if a solid relationship is being established with the representatives of the Swiss international.

Regarding Steur, at one point last season, no midfielder in the Eredivisie boasted a higher progressive pass accuracy or defensive duel win rate, underscoring the 18-year-old’s potential both with and without the ball..
