Liverpool is on the verge of securing the services of two dynamic Dutch players in an impressive €100m double transfer deal…
Liverpool set to sign two exciting Dutch players in a stunning €100m double transfer deal.
Liverpool is in the process of adding two talented Dutch players to their squad in a noteworthy €100m double transfer deal.
Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot, is looking to secure the signings of two Dutch players, Teun Koopmeiners and another undisclosed target, as his first moves in charge of the club.
The Reds have been informed of the cost of acquiring Koopmeiners and have already initiated contact with the second player.
A new chapter has begun at Liverpool with Slot taking over from the legendary Jurgen Klopp. Klopp, who left the club after a successful tenure, has passed the torch to Slot, who is now tasked with leading the team forward.
As preparations for the upcoming season kick off, Slot and the new sporting director, Richard Hughes, have started settling into their roles at the club’s training complex in Kirkby.
The duo conducted their first interviews since assuming their positions, as the club gears up for the new campaign.
Slot has definitely left a strong impression, providing Liverpool fans with valuable insights into his strategies and formations, while also speaking positively about several key players, including Darwin Nunez, whose future with the team is uncertain.
Together with football CEO Michael Edwards, Liverpool aims not only to uphold Klopp’s impressive legacy but also to expand on it and narrow the gap with the top English and European teams.
With a substantial transfer budget at their disposal, discussions are already underway regarding the specific positions and types of players that Slot and his team would like to bring to Anfield.
As a result, TEAMtalk has learned that Slot’s main focus is on two key positions: a left-sided center-back and a new midfielder, both of which are at the top of his wishlist.
Arne Slot is aware of the price required to secure the signing of Teun Koopmeiners.
A new midfielder is considered a crucial addition, and it has been revealed that Slot has pinpointed Atalanta’s Koopmeiners as a potential target.
Koopmeiners, who is 26 years old, was a standout player for the Italian team last season, contributing significantly to their success in winning the Europa League and finishing fourth in Serie A. He scored 15 goals and provided seven assists during an impressive campaign both individually and collectively.
Despite his success, Koopmeiners has expressed his desire to leave Atalanta this summer, stating in March: “I have informed Atalanta that I intend to move on next summer.”
There must be an enticing offer to lure Atalanta into letting go of Koopmeiners.
My partner and I are enjoying our time in Italy, but I wouldn’t mind a bit of rain if it means playing for clubs in England!
I am hopeful for good opportunities to consider. And I also wish that Atalanta receives a fair amount for me, as I had a fantastic experience there.
With a contract running until 2027, any transfer for Koopmeiners will come at a high price, with Atalanta demanding €60m (£50.8m) for his services.
Juventus is the only club to have shown interest so far, but they have made it clear that they cannot offer more than €40m (£33.9m) for his transfer.
Reports from Italy now suggest that Liverpool is in the lead to sign the player, as they are willing to match the fee and the preference to sell to the Reds rather than a direct rival.
Additionally, Slot has recommended to his board a move for Koopmeiners, leading the Italian press to believe that Liverpool will be the player’s next destination.
In other Liverpool transfer news, Slot has made contact for Jeremie Frimpong.
Furthermore, Slot is aiming to make another move for a Netherlands star this summer, with Jeremie Frimpong also on his radar.
The Bayer Leverkusen right wing-back had an impressive season, narrowly missing out on an unbeaten season and a clean sweep of trophies under Xabi Alonso’s management.
Despite their dominance in Germany, winning the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal, they missed out on the chance for a historic Treble after a 3-0 loss to Atalanta in the Europa League final.
Frimpong played a significant role in their success, scoring an impressive 14 goals and providing 12 assists in 47 games as a right wing-back.
However, a tempting €40m (£33.9m) exit clause in his Leverkusen deal makes it unlikely that he will stay beyond this summer.
Several clubs, including Manchester United, Barcelona, and Real Madrid, have shown interest in a potential deal.
The latest reports from Germany suggest that Liverpool has made the first move, with Slot already in contact with the player about a possible move to Anfield.
Acquiring him would not only give Liverpool more depth and competition for Trent Alexander-Arnold, potentially protecting them from his departure with just a year left on his contract, but also provide the option of utilizing TAA in a more advanced midfield position.
A joint transfer for both players would cost the Reds a total of €100m (£84.7m), but would significantly enhance the quality of their squad.
Discussions with Alexander-Arnold are in the works.
Slot has expressed readiness to hold discussions with Alexander-Arnold regarding his role at Anfield, but has refrained from commenting on the unsuccessful attempt to deploy him in the England midfield during Euro 2024.
“I don’t have a specific opinion on where they should play for their national teams, as that depends on the other players available. You can’t evaluate a player in isolation,” stated the Liverpool manager.
Collaboration is key in achieving success as a team. While I have my thoughts on their potential playing positions, I prefer to discuss it with them first before sharing with you.
Slot is optimistic about the performance of Cody Gakpo, the third Dutch star, who has been shining in Euro 2024 with three goals and one assist.
“I anticipate further growth from him. We have high expectations and believe he can excel even more. He has been outstanding in the tournament,” Slot commented on his compatriot.
“We have inherited a talented squad. Daily hard work is crucial in football. Each player’s performance may vary from their club level. The team is already strong, with some quality signings made last year.”
Typically, one can expect to see progress. I had hoped that observers would notice the flexibility in my team’s formation, which is not strictly 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3.
There is a great deal of freedom for players to assume various positions, both on and off the ball. Our approach is to be highly aggressive when we are not in possession.
I don’t have a strong preference for either 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. If pressed, I would say we lean towards a 4-3-3 setup. The roles of full-backs are quite distinct.
While I have watched numerous matches and training sessions, those who are directly involved with the team have a deeper understanding. It is clear that we must identify areas for improvement.
