Liverpool and Newcastle transfer update regarding Anthony Gordon was shared by Fabrizio Romano.

Liverpool are currently unlikely to meet Newcastle’s asking price for winger Anthony Gordon, as per the latest update from journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Reds are actively seeking to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season under new head coach Arne Slot. Meanwhile, Newcastle has been dealing with a time-sensitive situation as the PSR account deadline approaches.

Eddie Howe’s team risked a points deduction if they did not offload players before the June 30 deadline.

Consequently, discussions about potential departures have been ongoing, with Gordon being one of the players rumored to be leaving St James’ Park.

The Reds have shown great interest in the player.

According to Romano, Liverpool’s chances of signing Gordon hinge on Newcastle lowering their asking price.

The journalist mentioned in his Daily Briefing that while the Merseyside club holds the player in high regard, it is unlikely that they will meet the current demands. Therefore, a transfer within the next 24 hours before the deadline seems improbable.

For Liverpool to secure the services of the England international, Romano suggests that they would need to make an exceptional offer.

Gordon is currently representing his country at UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany.

Romano also revealed that discussions regarding Gordon took place due to Newcastle’s financial difficulties, but the significant disparity in valuations prevented any progress in negotiations.

Gordon, a former member of Liverpool’s academy, made the switch to Everton in 2012. After developing at Goodison Park, he transferred to Newcastle in January 2023.

Set to be a free agent in the summer of 2026, Gordon is an integral part of Howe’s squad at Newcastle.

His impressive performances for the Magpies led to a call-up from England manager Gareth Southgate, resulting in his senior debut for the national team earlier this year.

Newcastle expressed interest in acquiring Quansah through a potential exchange deal.

The young player has shown significant progress during his time at Liverpool.

It was revealed on Saturday morning that discussions had occurred between the two clubs.

According to David Lynch of This is Anfield, Newcastle suggested the idea of Liverpool signing Gordon, but with the condition that defender Jarell Quansah would be part of the deal.

Liverpool reportedly rejected this proposal, as they see Quansah as a promising talent for the future at Anfield after an impressive breakthrough season.

Despite being loaned to Bristol Rovers in the latter part of the 2022/23 season, the 21-year-old was given the opportunity to play first-team football last season.

During the 2023/24 season, Quansah saw an increase in his playing time and finished the Premier League season by participating in six consecutive matches.

His progress at Liverpool led to an invitation to Southgate’s pre-Euro training squad earlier this summer, but he ultimately did not make the final 26-man squad.

Quansah is currently contracted to Liverpool until 2027 after signing an extension last summer.
