Head coach Arne Slot and Liverpool owner John Henry have expressed their deep concern regarding Alisson’s current situation, leaving all Liverpool fans anxious.
Inside sources indicate that the matter is more serious than initially perceived, and Alisson’s forthcoming decision could significantly influence the club’s future for the rest of the season.
“We’re doing everything we can… but it’s really not an easy situation,” Slot remarked during a tense press conference.
Details about Alisson’s condition and the locker room’s response at Liverpool are slowly emerging.
Medical experts have stated that it was ‘no surprise’ to see Alisson sidelined with yet another injury.
Alisson Becker is frequently mentioned in conversations about the world’s best goalkeeper, yet he also brings considerable frustration to Liverpool fans.
At 33 years old, he has undeniably been a game-changing acquisition for the Reds, providing a steady presence in a position that had been problematic at Anfield for years prior to his signing, often saving his team with remarkable stops.
Nevertheless, he has once again been afflicted by injury after limping off during last week’s defeat to Galatasaray, and it is anticipated that he will be out of action until the November international break (The Athletic).
Physio was not surprised to see Alisson facing yet another injury. In an article for The Athletic on Thursday morning, Gregg Evans highlighted that Alisson has missed 14% of Liverpool’s Premier League matches since joining in 2018, suffering from five separate hamstring injuries over the last three years.
An anonymous physio who spoke to the publication suggested that the Brazilian’s unfortunate injury history was a significant factor contributing to his latest setback.
They stated: “Considering Alisson’s age and his past injury history, it’s not surprising that he has suffered a similar injury. Three factors must be taken into account – his physical structure, his movement patterns, and the intensity of his training – but the most significant risk stems from his previous injuries.”
Alisson’s injury history has been alarming.
This assessment aligns with the insights of injury expert Sam Fell, who recently informed Physio Scout that Alisson is ‘more susceptible to’ such injuries due to his background, and that the goalkeeper’s ‘sprinting style’ may have also played a role in his early exit against Galatasaray.
During his seven-plus years at Liverpool, he has already experienced three distinct injury spells lasting 15 games or more, along with various other minor ailments and illnesses (Transfermarkt). Not since his inaugural season with the Reds in 2018/19 has he managed to play every Premier League match in a single season.
Evans encapsulated the disappointment surrounding the 33-year-old in the opening of his article for The Athletic by stating: ‘The image of Alisson pulling up with a hamstring injury used to instill dread in the Liverpool fanbase. Now, supporters respond with a sense of weary acceptance.’
It was expected that Richard Hughes would act quickly to secure a deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili in 2024, considering the inconsistent injury record of our world-class number 1. Previously, we have been fortunate to have such a reliable backup in Caoimhin Kelleher.
We can only hope that the Brazilian will recover quickly from his latest injury, but fortunately, we have the highly capable Georgian international ready to step in over the coming weeks, when he will be expected to justify the club’s trust in him.
