William Saliba and Mikel Arteta align on Arsenal’s transfer position as Real Madrid ‘initiate discussions’
Both William Saliba and Mikel Arteta are in agreement about Arsenal’s transfer policy as Real Madrid opens negotiations.
Arsenal is in the spotlight as Real Madrid reportedly targets a summer acquisition of star defender William Saliba.
Following his remarkable growth at the Emirates Stadium, Saliba has become a pivotal figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad, having gained significant experience during loan spells at Saint-Etienne, Nice, and Marseille.
According to Le 10 Sport, the La Liga club has identified Saliba as their primary target for the upcoming transfer window and has already reached out to his representatives to explore his potential interest in a move.
This pursuit comes after Real Madrid’s unsuccessful attempt to secure Leny Yoro, who opted for a £58.7 million transfer to Manchester United.
Acquiring Saliba is expected to be a costly endeavor, as Arsenal views him as a vital asset, a sentiment reinforced by his contract extension last year.
Saliba has expressed his dedication to the club, having committed to a deal that runs until 2027, despite a previous season hampered by injuries.
He articulated his aspirations for further achievements, stating, “Honestly, the decision was easy because I had a really good season last season, but unfortunately I didn’t finish it because of injury. So I want more. I want to play more years for this amazing club.”
The French defender emphasized his ambitions with Arsenal, noting, “I haven’t achieved anything yet, so I want to win everything with this club.
“I believe we can accomplish great things. It’s easy to say, but we have the coach, the character, and the players, and each year the team grows stronger.”
He added, “We have better players with a strong mentality and valuable experience from last season.
“We understand that the season is long, so we are confident and know we can achieve something significant at this club,” as reported by the Mirror.
Saliba highlighted the enhanced quality and mentality of the team for the current season. “We possess stronger players with a positive mindset.
Our experiences from last season have also contributed. We understand that the season is lengthy, so we are confident in our ability to achieve great things at this club.”
Arteta has conveyed his pleasure regarding the thriving collaboration between Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, which has played a crucial role in Arsenal’s recent achievements.
Last month, he noted the duo’s progress, stating, “You need to observe their development on a daily basis,” remarked the head coach.
