Former Real Madrid talent eager for possible UCL showdown – ‘It would be special’.
Not long ago, Martin Odegaard was viewed as a promising young talent striving to make his mark at Real Madrid.
Although his time at the Santiago Bernabeu did not unfold as he had hoped, the Norwegian has established himself as a prominent figure in the Premier League with Arsenal, now recognized as one of the top midfielders globally.
Odegaard played a pivotal role in Arsenal’s impressive 7-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 last night.
Odegaard anticipates a potential clash with Real Madrid.
After the match, Odegaard expressed his excitement about the possibility of facing his former team, Real Madrid, in the upcoming round.
In a conversation with Amazon Prime, the Arsenal star remarked (h/t Mundo Deportivo), “It would be special to go back there.”
Odegaard was with Real Madrid from 2015 to 2021, during which he made only 11 competitive appearances for the club.
However, at Arsenal, he has enjoyed significant success. Since joining, the midfielder has played in 182 competitive matches for the Gunners, scoring 40 goals and providing 32 assists.
His contributions have been instrumental in positioning Arsenal as serious contenders for the Champions League this season.
According to Odegaard, the team is well-prepared for the next challenge.
“Whoever we face, we’ll be ready, but first we need to complete the job at home and then we’ll see who we draw,” the Arsenal captain added.
Following their commanding 7-1 win over PSV Eindhoven, Arsenal has nearly secured their spot in the quarterfinals.
The focus now shifts to Real Madrid, who must secure their advancement after a tight 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid in the first leg, with the return match at the Metropolitano promising to be a tough contest.
