‘We need to go to a different level’ – Mikel Arteta urges the team to step up their game following the disappointment of missing out on the title…
Mikel Arteta conveys a message of striving for progress following the disappointment of missing out on the title: ‘We must elevate ourselves to a higher standard.’
Mikel Arteta, the head coach of Arsenal, has acknowledged that his team will have to reach a higher level in order to secure the Premier League title in the future.
Despite a 2-1 victory over Everton at the Emirates Stadium on the final day, the Gunners were unable to lift the trophy. Manchester City’s 3-1 triumph over West Ham United allowed them to finish two points ahead at the top of the table, securing their fourth consecutive title under Pep Guardiola.
Arsenal had a commendable campaign, winning 28 matches, drawing five, and losing five out of their 38 league games. They scored an impressive 91 goals and only conceded 29, but ultimately fell just short of their goal.
Arteta acknowledges the need for Arsenal to elevate their performance in order to challenge Manchester City for the title and fend off competition from other clubs.
Despite falling short in the title race, Arteta expressed his pride in the team’s efforts and congratulated Manchester City on their remarkable performance.
We fell just short in the title race. Firstly, congratulations to Manchester City for being the champions. They have been exceptional since December,” Arteta expressed to TNT Sports following the Everton match.
“We gave it our all. Our determination was evident, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.
“It’s satisfying because success shouldn’t only be measured by comparing ourselves to others; we must evaluate our own progress. We have broken every record this club has, except for winning the title.
“This league is the most competitive in history, and we must strive to be better. We must now focus on finding ways to enhance our performance.”
Arteta expressed his satisfaction in reestablishing the connection between the club and its fans. He emphasized that this achievement has been the most rewarding aspect of his role.
“It’s truly fulfilling. One of my aspirations upon joining was to unite everyone, to elevate this place to new heights. We are currently on that path,” he remarked.
“While I am disappointed that we couldn’t secure the trophy today, as it would have meant everything to them, we are making progress, that’s certain.
“Now, we must show even more determination, courage, and ambition, and strive to reach new heights. We must deliver.”
Arsenal has been crowned champions of England’s premier league 13 times, most recently in the 2003-04 season when they finished 11 points ahead of second-placed Chelsea.
