Thomas Gronnemark seems to leave door open for Liverpool return with 5-word social media reply…
Thomas Gronnemark appears to have left the door ajar for a potential return to Liverpool, as indicated by his five-word response on social media.
Gronnemark seems to have hinted at the possibility of reuniting with Liverpool once again.
The 49-year-old previously served as a throw-in coach for the Merseyside club from 2018 to 2023, a role that was initially met with skepticism by figures like Andy Gray, yet the evidence supports the success of his contributions.
In a conversation with Peter Kenny Jones from Empire of the Kop on The Football Historian Podcast earlier this year, he shared how he enhanced Joel Matip’s throw-in distance by over eight meters during his initial session with the Reds.
This specific set-piece has gained significant traction in the Premier League this season, and it proved costly for Liverpool on Saturday night when Brentford capitalized on it to score an early goal through Dango Ouattara, much to John Aldridge’s frustration.
The next day, an LFC supporter on X shared a Gronnemark tweet from 2018, asking, ‘Fancy a job now, mate?’, to which the former throw-in coach responded: ‘Always ready to help, mate’.
Gronnemark has demonstrated that he is a visionary.
The 49-year-old faced childish mockery when he first joined Liverpool seven years ago, but it has become clear that he was ahead of his time.
According to premierleague.com, the average number of long throw-ins per game in the English Premier League has more than doubled this season compared to the previous one (from 1.52 to 3.44), with the average in 2020/21 being as low as 0.89 per match.
Gronnemark’s own statistics reveal that in the season prior to his hiring by Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool was ranked 18th in the Premier League for successful throw-ins under pressure, achieving a rate of 45.4%. After his first season with the Reds, they soared to first place with a success rate of 68.4%.
The Danish individual reiterated in a recent social media update over the weekend that he is ‘coaching throw-ins globally’ and ‘enjoying life’.
He also keeps sharing instructional and analytical videos on his YouTube channel.
Should he decide to make a comeback to English football in the near future, you can be assured that he will not be arrogantly disregarded as he was when Klopp approached him for his expertise in 2018. His skills would be embraced wholeheartedly if he chooses to return to LFC.
