Ian Wright provides candid assessment of Arsenal’s draw against Brighton.

Arsenal’s pursuit of the Premier League title has taken a hit following a 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday evening.

The Gunners initially took the lead in the 16th minute with a goal from Ethan Nwaneri, who skillfully maneuvered inside and curled a shot past Bart Verbruggen, thanks to a well-executed play by Mikel Merino.

However, Brighton was awarded a controversial penalty in the 60th minute, giving them the opportunity to equalize.

Joao Pedro managed to flick the ball in the box, and as William Saliba attempted to clear it with a header, there was a clash of heads.

Referee Anthony Taylor pointed to the penalty spot without VAR intervention, and Pedro converted the penalty, sending David Raya the wrong way.

After the match, Arsenal legend Ian Wright shared his thoughts with Premier League Productions, expressing satisfaction that Arsenal managed to secure a point away from home.

He emphasized the importance of not losing away matches, stating, “The main thing is you’ve got to win your home games and make sure you don’t lose away from home.”

Wright added, “It’s a point on the road, and you have to take it.

You need to keep applying pressure on Liverpool; losing is not an option in this situation.”

Other pundits also weighed in on Arsenal’s performance against Brighton. Jamie Redknapp remarked on Sky Sports, “I mentioned before the match that there would be twists and turns, but if Arsenal continues to play like this, there won’t be any.”

He criticized their performance, noting, “They were lackluster tonight, managing only one shot on target in the second half.

“Draws are detrimental to their campaign, and it was a disappointing night overall, marked by a lack of quality and creativity.”

Redknapp also pointed out Mikel Arteta’s decision to substitute Nwaneri at halftime, despite his goal-scoring contribution, suggesting that Arsenal struggled to create opportunities in the second half unless from set-pieces.

Former Arsenal and Brighton defender Matthew Upson shared his thoughts on BBC Radio 5 Live, stating, “Arsenal displayed strong moments during the match.

“However, it seemed they required a bit more effort to secure the victory, which did not materialize in the second half.

“To clinch the win at 1-0, they needed to dig deep. A successful outing would have left them satisfied with the three points on the bus ride home.

“Unfortunately, they fell short, while Brighton performed better in the latter half.”

Arsenal’s next match is scheduled for Tuesday night, where they will face Newcastle United in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
