“Discussions to proceed”: Liverpool is gearing up for another major transfer as talks with Isak continue – Fabrizio Romano.

Liverpool is actively negotiating with Al Hilal for a permanent transfer of Darwin Nunez this summer.

The Merseyside club is thought to be prepared to part ways with the striker, who has lost his place in the team after a mixed season under Arne Slot.

Enter Saudi Arabia. Fabrizio Romano has now reported on X (formerly Twitter) that Al-Hilal is in ‘talks’ with Nunez’s representatives about a summer transfer.

Ongoing discussions between Al Hilal and Darwin Nunez’s camp continue as Liverpool remains open to a permanent sale.

Negotiations are expected to proceed in the coming days, but Darwin remains a key target for Al Hilal.

What price would Liverpool set for Nunez?

It is still unclear how much the Saudi Pro League is willing to offer for the striker.

However, it is reasonable to assume that Liverpool would be more likely to reach their desired asking price from the wealth of the Middle East than from Serie A.

In mid-July, we reported exclusively at Empire of the Kop that Al-Hilal is prepared to meet the club’s reported asking price for Nunez, which is set at €70m (£60.7m).

This would, at the very least, allow us to recover the majority of the £64 million upfront fee we initially paid to Benfica during the summer of 2022.

Liverpool has excelled in the summer transfer window.

Acquiring a total exceeding the £120 million mark for Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez must be regarded as exceptional business by Richard Hughes and his team.

It clearly does not enable Liverpool to break even in this window following substantial transactions for Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike (among other significant expenditures).

However, there is no doubt that it significantly reduces the total we have accumulated during a highly successful summer transfer window. Ultimately, Liverpool still possesses ample PSR flexibility.

Naturally, it is yet to be determined if Nunez will even consider a move to Saudi Arabia.

The Uruguayan has understandably shown a preference for remaining in Europe for his next transfer.

Nonetheless, the financial incentives available in the Middle East might be too alluring to ignore.
