Surprise: Arsenal has made a late bid to acquire a “superstar” winger, who is as thrilling as Eze
The toxicity of an online fanbase often means that it is rare to find a signing that brings together a group of supporters, especially Arsenal fans.
While they enjoy venting their frustrations, there is also a remarkable sense of collective unity. This was evident when Eberechi Eze signed for the Gunners on Saturday.
Although the deal was finalized by Wednesday evening, this transfer has been in the works for a couple of weeks, with reports indicating that the initial framework for the move was agreed upon on August 10th.
After that, Spurs intervened, and it seemed that Andrea Berta and his team would overlook their long-standing interest this summer.
However, an injury to Kai Havertz changed the situation. Arsenal needed another player and acted quickly, spending over £60m to bring the Crystal Palace star to North London.
If the reports are accurate, they may not be finished just yet.
Another late signing could be on the horizon for Arsenal.
With Eze’s arrival, it seems likely that Arsenal has completed their transfer activity regarding incoming players.
This won’t concern many fans, as it has been an impressive transfer window.
Yet, one player who has continued to evade the club despite months of speculation is Real Madrid winger Rodrygo.
Earlier in the window, reports suggested that discussions had taken place, but interest was never pursued further. However, according to reports from Spain, a bid was indeed made for the Brazilian.
It is reported that Arsenal has submitted an offer of £67m for the player. Nevertheless, with Manchester City showing interest, Madrid is unwilling to approve a sale unless their asking price of approximately £78m is met.
As a result, this may be one deal too many for Berta this summer.
Why Rodrygo is as thrilling as Eze.
Wow, just wow. This is an incredible deal. The moment Arsenal managed to secure Eze from their fiercest rivals is something that fans will remember for a long time.
Eze undoubtedly seems like the crucial element that has been missing. He can operate from the left wing or play just behind the striker in a number 10 role. A true maverick, he excels in dribbling, scoring goals, and creating opportunities. He possesses all the qualities needed to thrive at Arsenal.
Fans have often lamented the predictability of the club’s tactics over the past year, but Eze will undoubtedly inject some much-needed unpredictability into the attack.
Rodrygo could provide similar benefits, and one might still contend that, despite the increased depth on the left wing, there isn’t an elite option available.
While it may seem like we’re grasping at straws, Noni Madueke prefers to play on the right, whereas Eze is more suited to a central role.
Therefore, acquiring Rodrygo, whether it happens now or in the future, would complete the left side of Arteta’s attacking lineup.
Real Madrid’s Rodrygo arrives at the stadium before the match.

Although he went through a stretch of 17 games without scoring last season, the 24-year-old still managed to score 14 goals and provide 11 assists. Interestingly, this is the same tally that Eze achieved for Crystal Palace across all competitions in the 2024/25 season.
As former teammate Luka Modric described him, he is a “superstar” talent. Like Eze, he is also a maverick, ranking in the top 20% of similar players in Europe’s top five leagues for successful take-ons per 90 minutes and among the top 13% for progressive carries per 90, according to FBref.
In the shadow of Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr at Madrid, Rodrygo has seen limited playing time since new manager Xabi Alonso took over, and it seems inevitable that he will soon become frustrated and seek a transfer away from the Spanish capital.

This deal is likely to extend into 2026, but there is no doubt that he is an exceptional player, bringing the same level of unpredictability and excitement in attack as Mr. Eze.
