Slot confirms Liverpool injury boost before Man City but issues key warning

Slot has provided an update on Liverpool’s injury situation ahead of the match against Man City, but he has also issued an important caution.

Arne Slot revealed that Alexander Isak will resume training on Friday after being sidelined for three weeks, but he cautioned fans not to anticipate the Swedish forward to be at peak performance right away.

During his pre-Manchester City press briefing, the 47-year-old stated: “He will train with the team for the first time today, after being out for three weeks.

“I mentioned three weeks ago that ‘his pre-season has concluded,’ so now we need to assess his current condition.

“However, I must reiterate my previous comments because being three weeks in rehab does not equate to returning to the form he had three weeks ago.

“Even though our rehabilitation team is doing an outstanding job, rehab cannot be compared to actual football matches or training with the team.

“No matter how much we try to simulate it, that is simply not feasible. Therefore, I must emphasize that he needs some time.”

Isak is on track to return, but Alisson and Frimpong remain unavailable.

The British-record signing has been absent for the last four matches due to a muscle injury sustained in late October.

His absence has allowed Hugo Ekitike to take the lead as the central striker, and the Frenchman has excelled in this role.

The manager’s message was straightforward: Isak will require time and rhythm before he can compete with his teammate.

This aligns with the recent discussions among Roy Keane, Ian Wright, and Gary Neville regarding the striker’s initial struggles since joining Liverpool, with Keane asserting: “I still believe he will come good for him. I think he will succeed.”

Slot also spoke about Alisson Becker and Jeremie Frimpong, confirming that both players are anticipated to return following the international break.

“Alisson is definitely the one. I also anticipate Jeremie returning after the international break, as we have matches scheduled from November through March! However, I don’t foresee Jeremie being completely fit for the game against Forest,” he mentioned.

This news will be welcomed, especially after Paul Scholes recently pointed out that Liverpool has greatly missed Alisson, stating that “every shot seems to be going in” without the Brazilian guarding the goal.

The Reds are looking to build momentum before the international break.

Sunday’s match against City presents a significant chance for us to get closer to the top of the table.

Currently, Liverpool is in third place with 18 points, just one point behind Pep Guardiola’s team.

This match follows a fantastic 1–0 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League, where we showcased a performance reminiscent of our best – filled with energy, control, and defensive solidity.

If we can replicate that performance, Slot’s squad could enter the break firmly in contention for the title, particularly as key players are nearing full fitness.
