Robbie Fowler fears Liverpool ‘really missing’ £65m star sold in the summer. The Liverpool legend believes his exit has caused a massive problem for Arne Slot’s side…
The Liverpool icon believes that his departure has created a significant issue for Arne Slot’s team.
Robbie Fowler is concerned that Liverpool are ‘truly missing’ the £65m star who was sold during the summer.
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler is worried that the club is ‘missing’ Luis Diaz after the winger’s transfer to Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.
Diaz departed Anfield after three and a half years to join the German club in a deal valued at £65 million. This occurred during a tumultuous summer on Merseyside, with Darwin Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harvey Elliot, and Jarell Quansah also leaving the club.
Liverpool invested over £450 million in new players, but their attempt to retain the Premier League title has already faced challenges, having lost five out of 11 matches and now trailing leaders Arsenal by eight points.
Mohamed Salah’s diminishing impact, along with slow starts from Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, has highlighted issues in the attack, with former striker Fowler linking many of the problems to Diaz’s exit.
Although Liverpool were keen to retain the Colombian international, who sought the transfer, Fowler expresses surprise that ‘not more has been made of how much they are missing’ the winger this season.
‘I’m unsure why he left, but it seems he wanted to go since it was a very swift sale, wasn’t it? That indicates he likely desired the move, but for me, he was one of Liverpool’s standout players last year,’ Fowler shared with Metro, representing Adventure Gamers.
‘So I’m genuinely surprised that not more attention has been given to how much Liverpool are missing him.
‘When you analyze Liverpool, especially considering the difficult start they’ve had, they seem to struggle to break down teams that sit back and maintain a low block.
‘Luis Diaz is one of those players capable of unlocking defenses. Therefore, I believe they have truly missed him.
Another player who departed from Liverpool last summer was Tyler Morton, an academy graduate. The 23-year-old did not make a single league appearance under Slot last season and subsequently joined Lyon in the summer. After a challenging beginning, he has become an essential player for the team.
Morton, who has already been linked with a return to England, with Crystal Palace and West Ham showing interest, recently expressed that he felt he ‘didn’t feel the trust’ under Slot.
Although Morton’s future appeared uncertain under Slot, Fowler envisions a promising path for the former academy talent and hopes that one day it will be evident that selling him was a misstep.
‘There’s no doubt that he’s good enough because he has played in midfield for Liverpool before,’ Fowler stated.
‘However, it’s important to be honest and acknowledge that the manager didn’t utilize him much last year. So, under this manager, it’s hard to see him returning. That’s just my perspective.
‘From what I observe in Tyler Morton, I believe he’s a talented player, but the manager didn’t give him much playing time last year. This indicates something about his style of play, which may not align with what the manager desired.
‘I sincerely hope he does [prove them wrong for selling him] because he is a local lad who has clearly progressed through the ranks. I feel that way about every player who comes up from the academy. I always want to see them succeed, and I genuinely do.’
