Liverpool is rumored to be eyeing Feyenoord midfielder Mats Wieffer for a €40 million deal. Barcelona is also reportedly interested in the 24-year-old Dutch player as the summer transfer window approaches.
Barcelona is reportedly eyeing Feyenoord midfielder Mats Wieffer, who is a target for Liverpool in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to Fichajes, Liverpool is looking to secure Wieffer for a fee exceeding €40 million. Barcelona is also keen on the Feyenoord midfielder as the transfer season draws near.
Wieffer, a 24-year-old Dutch player, has been a key player for Arne Slot’s team and has impressed with his performances at Feyenoord. With Slot expected to join Liverpool next season, it is understandable that the Reds are considering his former players.
It is undeniable that Wieffer would be an excellent addition to Liverpool’s defensive midfield, which is desperately in need of reinforcements. He will provide valuable support in repelling enemy attacks and safeguarding the back four. In recent months, Liverpool has been linked to various defensive midfield players. Last summer, they attempted to attract talents like Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo.
Although Wataru Endo, a Japanese international, was eventually signed by the Reds from Stuttgart and has performed admirably, Liverpool must plan for the future as Endo is approaching his forties.
By bringing Wieffer into the equation, their primary objective for the upcoming summer transfer window should be to secure a top-tier defensive midfield player.
This summer, Liverpool requires a defensive midfielder.
Acquiring the Feyenoord player could prove to be a wise move. The Dutchman is adapting well under Slot’s guidance, indicating that he should have no trouble adjusting to Liverpool and making an immediate impact.
Additionally, the midfielder has also been linked to Barcelona, the dominant team in Spain.
Furthermore, apart from possessing the necessary physical and technical attributes to excel in English football, he is well-versed in Slot’s playing philosophy.
The opportunity to join one of the most prominent teams in the world will undoubtedly be tempting for the Dutch midfielder. However, it remains uncertain whether both parties can reach an agreement regarding the transfer fee.
For the midfielder, a sum of €40 million would be a substantial amount of money, and if Liverpool were to present a formal offer, Feyenoord might be persuaded to consider it. The midfielder is eager to make strides in the Premier League and establish himself in England.
While he has already demonstrated his capabilities in the Eredivisie, it remains unclear whether he will be able to make a significant impact at Liverpool if the transfer materializes. Nevertheless, with Barcelona consistently lurking in the background, a transfer could be on the horizon.
