Report: Liverpool poised to finalize a remarkable deal to acquire Trent Alexander-Arnold 2.0

Liverpool may have finally discovered their next Trent Alexander-Arnold and are prepared to finalize a remarkable agreement with him.

There is no doubt that the Reds’ former no.66 has created a gap in the squad. Alexander-Arnold’s absence has been noticeably felt at Liverpool.

He was essentially a cheat-code in the build-up phase of the attack and also in terms of his creativity. No one in European football could match his passing and crossing abilities.

At Real Madrid, he has begun his tenure with the Spanish giants rather slowly, but things are expected to improve for him in the long run. He is a generational talent and will be regarded as one of the greatest right-backs to have ever played the game.

It is truly unfortunate that he may not become a Liverpool legend. To achieve that status, he would have needed to play more matches and not depart the club on a free transfer.

The manner of his departure and the terms of the deal have certainly left some fans feeling discontented.

However, the club must now look ahead and strategize for life without him. This season has underscored that they have yet to adequately replace him.

That situation could be on the verge of changing.

Anfield Index revealed an exclusive on Wednesday night regarding Liverpool’s readiness to pursue a sensational move for Oscar Mingueza on a free transfer.

The former Barcelona defender, who currently plays for Celta Vigo, has a contract that runs until the summer of 2026. He is eligible to agree to a pre-contract starting in January, and Liverpool appears to be quite interested in the services of the 26-year-old.

This would be a fascinating move, particularly because Mingueza shares a similar profile to Alexander-Arnold.

In terms of the build-up phase of the game, Mingueza enjoys being involved, and if we examine right-backs under 30 years old in Europe’s top five leagues, the statistics support that.

Only Alexander-Arnold (15.88 per 90) has recorded a higher average of progressive passes than Mingueza (11.66 per 90) over the past calendar year.

Thus, we are examining a right-back profile that mirrors what Alexander-Arnold once provided. In this regard, Mingueza could represent his 2.0 iteration at Liverpool.

While he may never reach the same level of excellence, he remains a very dependable and solid choice. His development at Barcelona’s academy should serve as a testament to his abilities.

As a free agent, he is likely to attract considerable interest. Given that Liverpool already has two right-backs, persuading him to join the Reds may prove challenging.

However, if Hughes can successfully navigate this, it would be an extraordinary acquisition.
