Report: Liverpool is preparing an £83m bid to acquire a La Liga superstar – not Rodrygo

Liverpool is set to make an £83m ‘offer’ for a La Liga player during the summer ‘transfer earthquake’ to succeed Salah.

The club is actively seeking a replacement for Mo Salah.

Reports indicate that Liverpool is ready to activate a substantial release clause to secure a long-term transfer target in 2026.

Despite having invested over £300 million in new forwards this summer, the Reds are reportedly aiming to sign another winger, particularly one who could serve as a future successor to Mohamed Salah.

Nico Williams has been on Liverpool’s radar for quite some time, and according to recent updates, they are prepared to meet the financial demands to finalize the deal.

Liverpool is ‘preparing’ an £83 million offer for Nico Williams.

Fichajes has stated that Liverpool continues to show interest in the Athletic Bilbao star and is ‘preparing’ to activate his €95 million (£83m) release clause.

Williams was previously linked with La Liga rivals Barcelona during the summer but chose to stay with Athletic. This decision is now in jeopardy, as the winger’s situation has become ‘dangerously uncertain’.

Williams reportedly feels ‘betrayed by the promises of a winning project this season’. After finishing fourth in the Spanish league last season, Athletic is currently facing challenges on all fronts. The Bilbao team is now seventh in the La Liga standings, having suffered three defeats in their last five matches.

They are also on track for an early exit from the Champions League unless their fortunes change significantly. With only two games remaining in the league phase, Athletic is outside the playoff positions in 28th place, having accumulated just five points.

Nico Williams is ‘seriously considering’ a move to the Premier League.

Athletic’s poor performance this season has greatly affected Williams. The report suggests that their disappointing form has ‘harmed his ambitions’ and he is now weighing his options.

The 23-year-old is reportedly ‘seriously considering’ a transfer to the Premier League due to the current disappointing situation at Athletic. So far this season, Williams has recorded three goals and three assists across all competitions, which falls short of the typical expectations for a forward of his quality.

Injuries have impacted his performance this season, but if Athletic’s difficulties are weighing on him as heavily as suggested by the Spanish media, a move in 2026 could be likely. Williams primarily plays as a left-winger but is also capable of playing on the right, making him a desirable target for Liverpool over the years.

The Reds are more determined than ever to find a long-term successor for Salah. The Egyptian has not performed at his usual high level this season, prompting the club to actively seek a skilled winger who can eventually take over from the iconic Salah.

Liverpool has also been historically and recently linked with Real Madrid’s Rodrygo. However, conflicting reports continue to circulate regarding the Brazilian’s future, leaving it uncertain whether he will depart from the Spanish capital anytime soon.
