Liverpool is in the process of planning a move for the £48.5 million playmaker, with indications that a deal may occur in January.

Liverpool looked into the market this summer to reinforce their wide forward position and tried to secure Anthony Gordon. However, Newcastle United successfully retained him and is believed to have come to terms on a new deal.

Liverpool is reportedly preparing to make a move for playmaker Nico Williams, with a potential deal anticipated in January, valued at £48.5 million.

This summer, Liverpool sought to enhance their wide forward options and made an attempt to acquire Anthony Gordon, but Newcastle United retained him and secured a new agreement.

Additionally, Spanish publication Marca indicated that Nico Williams was on Liverpool’s radar.

However, the player chose to remain at Athletic Bilbao, where he was given the No. 10 jersey.

According to Fichajes, Liverpool is still interested in Williams and has begun laying the groundwork for a transfer, potentially as a successor to Mohamed Salah, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the current season.

The 22-year-old winger has three years remaining on his contract with Athletic Bilbao, which includes a release clause of approximately £48.5 million (€58 million).

The report also mentions that Manchester United and Barcelona have shown significant interest in acquiring him, meaning Liverpool will face tough competition to secure his signature.

Williams primarily plays as a left-winger but is also capable of performing effectively on the right.

Last season, he delivered an impressive performance, contributing to 27 goals in 37 matches across all competitions.

He played a crucial role in Spain’s victory at the European Championships this summer, scoring twice, including a goal against England in the final, and providing an assist in Germany.

While Salah has been a pivotal player for Liverpool, his advancing age necessitates consideration for the club’s future without him.

Williams is regarded as one of the top wingers in La Liga, making him a valuable target for Liverpool as they look to secure a potential replacement for the Egyptian star.

What are your thoughts? Should Liverpool invest in Nico Williams as a successor to Salah?
