Liverpool is considering making a move to sign a Premier League ‘superstar’ for £85m instead of Anthony Gordon.

Liverpool is now contemplating a move to secure the services of an £85m Premier League ‘superstar’ instead of Anthony Gordon.

The rumors of Liverpool’s interest in Gordon sparked excitement on Saturday. The Reds have been exploring the option of adding a new forward player to their team this summer.

While Newcastle United addressed their financial issues, it seemed that Gordon could be a potential target for Liverpool.

Despite Newcastle resolving their financial problems without selling the 23-year-old, there are reports that Gordon is now interested in joining Liverpool.

However, considering the potential £100m price tag on Gordon, it appears likely that Arne Slot will need to consider other options.

Mohammed Kudus emerges as one of the alternatives to Anthony Gordon.

Had Liverpool seized the opportunity to sign Gordon earlier, it would have been viewed more as a strategic move rather than anything else.

While some may argue that Liverpool doesn’t necessarily require a new attacker, it seems evident that if they do bring one in, a left-footed player would be the ideal choice.

With Luis Diaz already occupying the left-hand side, Cody Gakpo’s impressive performance during Euro 2024 suggests he could also be a valuable asset in a wider attacking role.

Diogo Jota is capable of playing on the wing, and there is even a debate that Darwin Nunez performs better when not positioned centrally.

If Gordon had been acquired, it would have likely resulted in the sale of another player. According to Caught Offside, Liverpool have other options on the left side aside from the English player.

Despite this, they assert that Liverpool has not given up on Gordon. The team is said to be actively pursuing the former Everton winger, although Newcastle is seeking £70-75m for his transfer.

With that price potentially being too high for Liverpool, they are also considering three other targets in case the pursuit of Gordon does not progress.

Nico Williams, Mohammed Kudus, and Eberechi Ezre are reportedly the three players on Liverpool’s backup list.

Liverpool should cease their pursuit of Anthony Gordon. While there was a possibility that Newcastle might have had to part ways with Gordon, a transfer would have made sense for Liverpool.

However, now that Newcastle has resolved the situation, there is no need for Liverpool to continue their pursuit.

It appears that Liverpool admires Gordon, and he should be considered a long-term target for the club. At the moment, though, acquiring another left-sided forward would present too many challenges.

If the asking price were more reasonable, there might be some justification. However, given the high price, Liverpool must address other areas first.

We would be genuinely shocked if there isn’t further development regarding Gordon’s potential move to Liverpool in the future.

However, for now, attention should be directed elsewhere this summer. Out of the four options mentioned, it is crucial that priority is given to right-sided Kudus.

The West Ham forward has been labeled as a potential ‘superstar’ and even though his £85m release clause is remarkably high, signing Kudus would at least signal the beginning of a transition from Mohamed Salah.
