Real Madrid has acquired Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Anfield, with both parties reaching an agreement.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has joined Real Madrid on a free transfer after his contract with Anfield came to an end, with an agreement now in place between the player and the club.

After his contract at Anfield expired, Trent Alexander-Arnold has officially signed with Real Madrid on a free transfer, having reached a mutual agreement with the club.

The Liverpool right-back has been a long-standing target for the European champions, and there is growing anticipation that he will join Carlo Ancelotti’s squad once his contract concludes at the end of the season.

While the deal has not yet been finalized, it will require formal communication with Liverpool once an agreement is reached.

Reports from Spain suggest that Madrid has proposed a five-year contract for Alexander-Arnold, setting the stage for him to part ways with his childhood club.

The 26-year-old defender has played a vital role in Liverpool’s recent achievements and has performed admirably this season.

Madrid’s commitment to signing Alexander-Arnold is evident, as they previously had a bid rejected at the end of December.

Liverpool, who are on the verge of securing their first Premier League title since 2020, were not inclined to sell Alexander-Arnold during Arne Slot’s inaugural season in charge.

However, negotiations for a new contract have stalled, allowing him to engage in discussions with foreign clubs regarding a pre-contract agreement since the beginning of the year.

Sources close to the Liverpool squad have indicated that Alexander-Arnold is torn between remaining at the club or seizing the chance to move to the Bernabéu.

The temptation of joining Madrid is significant, especially as it would allow him to reunite with his friend and England teammate, Jude Bellingham.

Madrid has a notable track record of acquiring prominent English players, having previously signed David Beckham, Steve McManaman, Michael Owen, and Jonathan Woodgate. In recent years, the Spanish club has also developed a trend of securing top European talent through free transfers, successfully bringing in players like Kylian Mbappé, David Alaba, and Antonio Rüdiger.

On the other hand, Liverpool faces the potential loss of three key players who could depart on free transfers.

Both Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are in similar situations, with their contracts still unresolved.

Van Dijk, the Dutch center-back, has expressed uncertainty about his future, stating he has “no idea” what lies ahead.

This summer, Slot may need to initiate a rebuilding process.

Conor Bradley is poised to step in as a suitable replacement for Alexander-Arnold, but Liverpool is still confronted with the challenge of significant adjustments.

In 2023, Alexander-Arnold was appointed vice-captain by Slot’s predecessor, Jürgen Klopp, and is well-known for his exceptional passing, crossing, and set-piece abilities.

He has played a crucial role in Liverpool’s triumphs, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, and the Club World Cup.
