Pierre Ekwah expresses his admiration for Sunderland, stating that he now considers it his home and finds it to be a truly beautiful place.
Pierre Ekwah, the Sunderland midfielder, has garnered significant attention from several Premier League clubs, but he remains content with his current situation.
Expressing his commitment to Sunderland, Ekwah states that he has no plans to depart from Wearside in the near future. He describes the city as his home and finds it truly captivating.
Ekwah’s exceptional performances have caught the eye of numerous admirers in the Premier League, including Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, who have been strongly linked with a lucrative transfer for him in the upcoming January window.
He has also attracted interest from German side Stuttgart during the summer transfer window, which is a testament to his impressive progress since joining Sunderland from West Ham just a year ago, despite not having made a senior appearance before.
Ekwah, who has already netted four goals this season, expresses his immense satisfaction with Sunderland, considering it a “perfect” club and a “privilege” to represent.
“I made the leap from West Ham Under-21s to the Championship and even reached the play-offs within less than a year,” Ekwah stated.
“It brings me great joy to play for this club consistently week in and week out. I am genuinely content here, as it provides the ideal environment for my personal and professional growth. Moreover, it is evident that many individuals are thoroughly enjoying themselves.”
Despite a slightly shaky start that involved conceding a last-minute penalty in one of his initial matches, Ekwah has firmly established himself as a beloved figure among the Sunderland supporters.
The connection and affection between the Frenchman and the Stadium of Light is certainly not one-sided, as he expresses his sentiment by calling it ‘home.’
“It’s truly amazing to play in front of the fans,” he remarked.
“It’s indescribable. Every match, there are 40,000 people, and I find it both astonishing and exhilarating.
“I still remember my first home game, the noise was absolutely mind-blowing. Since then, I’ve always believed that if you can play here, you can play anywhere.
“It’s important to bring joy to the fans through our performance. We have to give them something that makes them jump out of their seats, so it’s understandable when they get frustrated at times. The fans make it known how the game is going, and here, you can hear it loud and clear. When things are going well, it’s absolutely fantastic.
“The more we play at home, the more it feels like home. It’s truly emotional to hear the support and excitement. I can confidently say that it’s my home now, and I find it incredibly beautiful.”
