Newcastle United player faces a two-match suspension in the Premier League following an incident with Sunderland.

The team is in danger of losing a player to suspension after their derby loss to Sunderland on Sunday.

Currently, Newcastle United has only one player at risk of receiving a yellow card ban as they approach the last seven matches of the season.

The Magpies experienced a 2-1 loss to their rivals Sunderland at St James’ Park on Sunday, with only one player from the home team receiving a booking.

It was easy to predict who that player was.

Joelinton is facing a potential Premier League ban due to the incident with Sunderland.

Joelinton received a booking in stoppage time shortly after Brian Brobbey scored, giving the Black Cats a 2-1 lead late in the match.

The Brazilian was cautioned for trying to clear the Sunderland players away from the advertising boards to expedite the game’s restart. Brobbey also received a yellow card for taking off his shirt in celebration.

This booking marked Joelinton’s ninth of the Premier League season, meaning that another yellow card would result in a two-match suspension for accumulating 10 bookings.

However, he can avoid this suspension if he manages to play through the next 32 games without receiving another booking. Fortunately for him, Newcastle’s upcoming Premier League match against Crystal Palace on April 12 will be their 32nd league game of the season.

Thus, Joelinton only needs to avoid a booking in that match to evade suspension. If he receives a yellow card at Selhurst Park, the 29-year-old will miss the subsequent matches against AFC Bournemouth and Arsenal.

No other players are at risk of suspension.

Following Joelinton, Dan Burn has received the second most bookings for Newcastle in the Premier League this season, with seven, so he is not at risk of a ban.

Captain Bruno Guimaraes is the next most cautioned player, having received five bookings.

Newcastle has not had any players suspended for yellow cards this season; however, Jacob Ramsey and Burn have both received one-game bans after being sent off for two yellow cards. At the beginning of the season, Anthony Gordon was given a three-match suspension for receiving a straight red card in the match against Liverpool.

Additionally, Joelinton received a Champions League suspension after being booked in the game against Barcelona, but he will not serve this suspension since Newcastle was eliminated from the competition following a 7-2 loss at Camp Nou last week.

Currently, the Magpies are positioned 12th in the Premier League standings with seven matches remaining.
