Liverpool’s immediate reaction to Crystal Palace’s statement regarding the Marc Guehi transfer.

Liverpool aims to bolster their defense this summer, with Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi being their primary target, as the England international’s contract expires next summer.

Liverpool continues to pursue the signing of Marc Guehi amidst a £70m transfer battle involving Crystal Palace.

Palace chairman Steve Parish has suggested they are open to selling, especially after losing Eberechi Eze, who is expected to join Arsenal in a £67.5m deal.

However, Palace manager Oliver Glasner has emphasized that they cannot afford to let Guehi depart Selhurst Park at this late stage in the transfer window, as finding a replacement would be challenging.

At the core of the issue is Palace’s concern about potentially losing Guehi for FREE next summer, having previously rejected bids of £70m for the England defender last summer.

This choice could prove detrimental, as Newcastle was prepared to invest heavily in signing Guehi, who now has only one year remaining on his contract.

Despite the ongoing uncertainty, Liverpool remains interested in Guehi and is eager to finalize a deal before the transfer window closes, but they are unwilling to pay an inflated price, knowing he will be available as a free agent next summer.

It seems unlikely that Liverpool would spend more than £30m this summer, while Palace still values him closer to £45m with his contract nearing its end.

Parish cautioned: “It’s a challenging situation; everyone must sell players to adhere to the regulations.”

Glasner holds Guehi in high regard, both as a player and as a captain and leader, which is increasingly crucial now that Eze has departed.

Following Palace’s Europa Conference League victory over Fredrikstad on Thursday night, Glasner remarked: “If Marc leaves, perhaps I will dust off my boots since I was a center back.

We must take action. It’s about Crystal Palace’s future, and we need to increase our squad depth.”

Liverpool remains in discussions regarding Guehi, whom they view as a strong, skilled, and composed defender with a promising future.

Despite making significant expenditures this summer, they have also offloaded players and still have the opportunity to acquire Guehi and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak before the transfer window closes.

However, they will not be pressured into a deal, as they are aware they can pursue him next year and secure him for free, although it is probable that other clubs will show interest in a prominent England defender available on a free transfer.

Palace’s worries regarding Guehi have only intensified with Eze’s imminent exit, as the England international is poised to finalize his transfer to Arsenal this weekend, preparing to undergo a medical examination and complete the deal.
