Liverpool XI vs Tottenham: Possible lineup, confirmed team news and injury latest for Premier League today…
Liverpool XI vs Tottenham: Anticipated lineup, confirmed team updates, and the latest on injuries for today’s Premier League match.
The Reds may benefit from Alisson’s return against Spurs, although Alexander Isak has yet to resume training.
Alisson might return to goal for Liverpool as they face Tottenham today.
The Reds’ long-standing No. 1 sustained an injury during training just before Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to Galatasaray in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 matchup.
Due to this injury, Alisson did not travel to Istanbul, leading to deputy Giorgi Mamardashvili stepping in, with both third-choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman and young Kornel Misiur on the bench.
Nevertheless, Arne Slot is hopeful that the Brazilian international will return to training soon and make a quick comeback against Spurs.
“He has been working with the physios and undergoing rehabilitation until now,” the Liverpool manager stated on Friday morning.
“We are training today, as you know, so let’s see if he can participate in the team session today. That is something I anticipate, but I’m not entirely certain yet because I haven’t spoken to him or the medical team this morning.
“I’m optimistic [that Alisson will play against Tottenham], but that doesn’t mean I’m completely sure.
“He experienced some discomfort when he passed the ball in one of his muscles. However, after our assessment, it was deemed so minor that we believe it won’t take long to recover.
“But as always, matches come around quickly, so he had to miss the one against Galatasaray, and hopefully, he will be available and ready for Sunday.
“If not, I expect him – if everything goes according to plan – to definitely be back for Galatasaray [the second leg on Wednesday].”
Another Liverpool player who did not make the trip to Turkey was Federico Chiesa, but Slot anticipates his return to the squad for Tottenham following a recent illness.
“I expect he is feeling better now because he was unwell the day before the match, and I believe we are now three or four days further along,” the Dutchman remarked. “So, I think he will be able to train with us again today.”
Liverpool is still without their record signing, Alexander Isak, who Slot mentioned is “still with the rehab team and not yet with the squad” as he recovers from a broken leg. He is joined on the sidelines by long-term absentees Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo, and Giovanni Leoni.
Despite the disappointing loss, you wouldn’t anticipate many changes from Slot since midweek. However, Alisson will certainly return if fit, and Jeremie Frimpong might replace Joe Gomez at right-back.
Andy Robertson, who nearly transferred to Tottenham in January, could be considered for the left side following Milos Kerkez’s underwhelming performance on Tuesday.
Cody Gakpo may also be reinstated in an attack that struggled against Galatasaray, with young fan favorite Rio Ngumoha eager for another opportunity to shine, and Chiesa now back in the squad.
If Slot aims to refresh his midfield, Curtis Jones is a clear choice, while Dominik Szoboszlai’s adaptability remains a significant advantage across the field.
Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Ekitike
Injured: Isak, Bradley, Endo, Leoni
Doubt: Alisson
