Liverpool XI vs Newcastle: Expected lineup, confirmed team updates, latest injury news for today’s Premier League match.

The Reds have faced a significant injury setback ahead of their visit to St James’ Park.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is faced with a crucial decision regarding defense for tonight’s match against Newcastle.

The current Premier League champions travel to St James’ Park on Monday night, aiming to secure their second consecutive victory at the season’s outset after a thrilling six-goal win over Bournemouth last week.

Unfortunately, the Reds have lost summer recruit Jeremie Frimpong to injury early in the second half at Anfield, and it has been confirmed that he will not participate against the Magpies due to a hamstring issue.

In terms of finding a replacement for Frimpong, Slot has indicated that Conor Bradley has returned to training and that Joe Gomez is also in the mix.

However, both players are lacking match fitness due to their injury issues during pre-season, which may lead Slot to consider either Wataru Endo or Dominik Szoboszlai playing out of position at right-back.

“There are alternative options we can consider. Joe Gomez is certainly one of them, but having him play 20 minutes was already quite a lot,” Slot informed reporters.

“I wouldn’t classify it as a setback, but he hasn’t been able to train fully with the team for three consecutive days.

“This is entirely normal after being out for an extended period, and suddenly the manager requires him for 20 minutes.

“However, he is training with the squad, so we will see how he is on Monday, whether he can be part of the team or even start.”

It is likely that Slot will choose Endo for the full-back position, as Szoboszlai will be needed to help counter what is anticipated to be a robust Newcastle midfield.

The Hungary international played in a deeper role against Bournemouth but could be moved back to the No10 position with Ryan Gravenberch returning from suspension to team up with Alexis Mac Allister.

This may result in big-money summer acquisition Florian Wirtz being relegated to the bench, while Liverpool’s attacking trio remains unchanged, as Hugo Ekitike – who was previously linked with a transfer to Newcastle earlier in the window – aims to maintain his strong start in England.

Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Endo, Konate, van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Ekitike

Doubts: Bradley, Gomez
