Liverpool XI vs Marseille: Mac Allister And Robertson To Start; Salah in contention | 4-2-3-1 as Arne Slot makes two changes…
Predicted Liverpool lineup against Marseille: Mac Allister set to return; Salah available
Alexis Mac Allister is expected to make his return to the Liverpool starting eleven as they face Marseille at the Orange Velodrome in a UEFA Champions League match on Wednesday.
Liverpool is keen to get back to winning form and re-enter the top eight of the UEFA Champions League standings when they clash with Marseille at the Orange Velodrome this Wednesday night. Arne Slot has received encouraging news regarding the team ahead of this upcoming match.
Mohamed Salah is back after a month away, having participated in the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt, where his team secured a fourth-place finish. The experienced forward is included in the squad traveling to face Marseille in the UEFA Champions League this week. Notably, Ibrahima Konate will not be part of the group for this midweek European encounter.
However, Giovanni Leoni (knee), Conor Bradley (knee), and Alexander Isak (leg) continue to be sidelined. During his pre-match press conference, Slot addressed Salah’s influence as the Reds look to break their winless streak. The Dutch manager also explained the absence of Konate from the traveling squad.
The Liverpool manager stated, “With Mo, I’m really happy and pleased that he’s back. In his absence, I think we’ve managed quite well in terms of hardly conceding any chances. We are starting to create more and more opportunities – and having a player like Mo Salah is incredibly beneficial when that happens.”
“Because if there’s ever been a player – I think there was one who scored more for this club – that can find the back of the net and I can still play, I don’t think I can still play Ian Rush, then having him back is extremely advantageous. We can only speculate, but the number of chances and the level of ball possession against Burnley, with Mo on the field, would typically lead to us scoring more.
I am truly pleased that he has returned, as generating opportunities is enjoyable, but ultimately we are evaluated based on outcomes, which have not been favorable. Therefore, I hope we can merge both aspects: continue creating similar opportunities, increase our scoring, and prevent conceding chances at the other end. Ibou did not travel with us due to personal family issues, and I will leave it at that. I will have another conversation with him tomorrow.
Alisson Becker is a guaranteed choice in goal, with Liverpool set to adopt a 4-2-3-1 formation against Marseille on Wednesday. The defensive lineup will include Jeremie Frimpong, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, and Milos Kerkez.
In the midfield, Dominik Szoboszlai will partner with Ryan Gravenberch in a double pivot, while Alexis Mac Allister will take on the no. 10 position. Lastly, Hugo Ekitike will spearhead the attack for the away team against Marseille, with Cody Gakpo and Florian Wirtz rounding out the offensive lineup. Consequently, Salah will serve as a backup option on the bench for the Reds.
Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Frimpong, Gomez, van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Szoboszlai; Wirtz, Mac Allister, Gakpo; Ekitike
