Liverpool XI vs Aston Villa: Anticipated lineup, confirmed team updates, injury news for today’s Premier League match

Reds aim to widen their lead at the top of the standings

Liverpool will once again be without Cody Gakpo and Joe Gomez for their Premier League match against Aston Villa this evening.

Currently leading the table, Liverpool secured a 2-1 victory over Wolves on Sunday, maintaining a seven-point advantage over Arsenal.

However, they are expected to encounter a tougher challenge against Unai Emery’s squad.

Gakpo missed the match against Wolves due to a knock sustained in the game against Everton, and Arne Slot has confirmed that the Dutch forward will not be fit in time for the clash with Villa.

Joe Gomez will also be absent from the trip to Villa Park, having sustained a hamstring injury during Liverpool’s unexpected FA Cup loss to Plymouth.

Slot commented: “Joe will require a significant amount of time to recover. He will be sidelined for several weeks due to his hamstring injury.

“It’s a significant setback for both Joe and the team. He is doing everything possible to return.

“He has been working diligently to come back, and in his first game back, just two or three minutes in, we saw him sprinting, and now he will be out for weeks again.”

Tyler Morton remains the only other injury concern at this time, while Curtis Jones is available again after serving a one-match suspension for his red card in the Merseyside derby.

With Gakpo unavailable, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez will vie for the starting striker position.

Liverpool predicted XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Jones; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz, Jota

Injured: Gakpo, Gomez, Morton

Kick-off: 7.30pm GMT on Wednesday, February 19, 2025

Location: Villa Park, Birmingham.
