Liverpool is set to make a budget-friendly bid for Marc Guehi as new discussions regarding his transfer come to light.

Liverpool has resumed direct negotiations concerning a budget-friendly transfer for Guehi, as uncertainties regarding Konate’s contract arise.

This week, Liverpool has reinitiated direct discussions with Marc Guehi’s representatives in an effort to outpace Real Madrid and secure the Crystal Palace captain’s services for Anfield in January, according to sources from TEAMtalk.

The 25-year-old center-back, whose contract at Selhurst Park concludes in June, is eligible to enter a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs starting January 1. Real Madrid has openly expressed their long-term interest and is actively pursuing the option of acquiring Guehi on a free transfer next summer.

This situation has raised concerns among the management at Anfield. With Virgil van Dijk nearing the end of his career and Ibrahima Konate’s inconsistent performance and uncertain future, Arne Slot has pinpointed Guehi as his primary defensive target to strengthen the back line for the future.

Liverpool is optimistic that Palace’s stance has weakened since the summer, when a deal worth up to £35 million with add-ons fell through at the last moment. The Eagles’ current mid-table standing and their need for transfer funds to assist Oliver Glasner’s rebuilding efforts have altered the situation.

Sources suggest that the Reds are prepared to propose between £25-30 million next month – significantly lower than Palace’s £70 million asking price for January 2025, but sufficient to provide the south London club with funds to reinvest rather than losing their captain for free in seven months.

Guehi is reportedly receptive to the transfer after having agreed to terms during the summer. The England international has already turned down two contract proposals from Palace and is enticed by the opportunity to play in the Champions League and take on a central role in Slot’s plans.

Liverpool emerges as the frontrunner for Marc Guehi as Palace responds.

While Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are keeping an eye on the situation, Liverpool’s proactive measures this week – which include direct communication with Guehi’s agents – have positioned them favorably.

With less than four weeks remaining until the transfer window opens, the upcoming two weeks are anticipated to be crucial. Liverpool is eager to prevent a recurrence of the summer’s frustrations and is prepared to act swiftly to secure one of England’s most reliable defenders before Real Madrid has the chance to intervene.

On November 20, we disclosed that Palace has pinpointed Sporting CP’s Ousmane Diomande as their main target to succeed Guehi.

According to sources, Palace is preparing a club-record offer of at least €50m (£44m) for the Ivorian defender. However, Chelsea may attempt to disrupt this transfer.
