Liverpool is preparing to pursue a £50m star as Slot aims for his fifth summer signing – report

Liverpool is set to make an offer for a £50m “monster”; it would be a remarkable repeat of the Ekitike deal – opinion

As reported by Football Insider, Liverpool is gearing up to submit a new bid for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi during the closing stages of the summer transfer window.

The Merseyside club has enjoyed a successful summer, having already secured four significant signings: Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz, and Jeremie Frimpong.

Liverpool is keen on acquiring Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, but they may also look to add a new centre-back before the transfer window officially closes.

Football Insider now reports that the Reds are still interested in bringing Guehi on board as they aim to strengthen their central defensive lineup following the exit of Jarell Quansah.

Ibrahima Konate has been inconsistent throughout his career, and Liverpool has reservations about his reliability. His contract is set to expire in June 2026, which raises the possibility of his departure.

With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez being the only other recognized senior centre-backs, a last-minute move for Guehi could be in the works.

Premier League experience

Guehi has made a name for himself as one of the top centre-backs in the English Premier League. He has played a crucial role at Palace and recently contributed to their FA Cup victory against Manchester City, defying the odds.

Nevertheless, he might be on the move this summer. His contract runs until the summer of 2026, and he will be eligible to negotiate a pre-contract with a foreign club starting in the New Year.

Thus, Palace may be inclined to approve his sale this summer rather than risk losing him on a free transfer. The Reds are monitoring the situation closely and could make a late attempt to sign the Chelsea academy product.

Gomez serves as the immediate backup to Virgil van Dijk and Konate, but he has a history of injuries.

Manager Arne Slot would ideally prefer to add another quality centre-back to enhance competition for places.

Guehi would be an excellent addition, having won an impressive 60% of his duels last season.
