Technical team discloses the reason for turmoil ahead of the Champions League: The squad faced a significant delay due to a flight issue, resulting in the disruption of all pre-match arrangements. Arne Slot was compelled to devise a new strategy.

Liverpool’s preparations for the Champions League encountered a significant obstacle on October 21 when the team’s planned 4 PM departure from London’s AXA training center was postponed until 7:51 PM.

This delay caused the squad to arrive in Frankfurt just before the airport’s closure at 11 PM, leaving minimal time for pre-match recovery.

The flight issue led Liverpool to cancel their pre-match press conference, which was supposed to feature manager Arne Slot and midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

Although this situation technically constitutes a UEFA violation, sources indicate that the club is unlikely to face penalties due to “circumstances beyond their control.”

Slot, who conducted training at AXA earlier that day, maintained his composure amidst the turmoil.

“These incidents won’t impact our match preparation,” he stated on the club website. “We trained as scheduled, just a few hours earlier. Arriving late is not an excuse for our performance tomorrow.”

Liverpool’s challenges persist on the injury front: Ryan Gravenberch missed several training sessions this week due to an ankle injury sustained during the 1-2 loss to Manchester United, marking Liverpool’s fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions — a streak not experienced under Slot until now.

If Frankfurt triumphs today, Liverpool risks extending this losing streak to five matches for the first time since 1953.

Despite these challenges, Szoboszlai stressed the importance of team cohesion.

“We’ve conducted numerous meetings to address our issues. The crucial aspect is to remain united,” the 24-year-old remarked.

“We’re prepared to respond appropriately, work diligently, and allow fortune to favor us once again.”

The midfielder also underscored the personal importance of this Champions League season, with the final scheduled to occur in his hometown of Budapest. “It’s a lengthy journey.

We must continue to learn, enhance our skills, and concentrate on our own performance,” Szoboszlai concluded.

Liverpool is currently confronted with a significant challenge in Frankfurt — managing injury issues, travel disruptions, and the necessity to restore confidence following a difficult period of performance.
