Liverpool injury update: Latest news on Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Conor Bradley, including their return dates.

The Reds are concerned about a lengthy absence for Isak following a significant setback for Arne Slot.

Arne Slot provides the latest injury updates for Liverpool ahead of their Premier League match against Wolves, including news on Isak, Gakpo, Wirtz, and others.

Liverpool aims to maintain their positive momentum when they face Wolves after the Christmas break.

The Reds seem to have regained their form after a challenging period, with their victory over Tottenham on Saturday marking their first consecutive wins in the Premier League since September.

Liverpool is expected to be strong favorites to secure another three points against bottom-placed Wolves on December 27, as they strive to narrow the gap to Arsenal, Manchester City, and Aston Villa at the top of the league.

However, their 2-1 victory over a nine-man Tottenham came with a price, as three new injury issues arose from their trip to North London.

The most pressing concern is Alexander Isak, who underwent surgery for a broken leg sustained during the match against Tottenham. He is likely to miss a significant portion of the remainder of the season.

With this in mind, here is the latest update on Liverpool’s injuries and expected return dates…

Alexander Isak

Isak played only 11 minutes after being substituted into the game against Tottenham on Saturday, suffering a serious injury after being challenged by Micky van de Ven while helping Liverpool take a 1-0 lead.

Isak was unable to celebrate his third goal of the season and, after receiving extensive treatment, was carried off the field with assistance from Liverpool’s medical team.

Slot remarked afterwards that it was “not a good thing” that Isak could not continue, and it was soon reported that the £125 million signing had sustained a bone fracture.

Liverpool confirmed on Monday that Isak fractured his ankle during Saturday’s match against Tottenham and has undergone surgery. He is anticipated to be out for several months but may return later this season.

A club statement announced: “Following a diagnosis, an operation was successfully performed today on an ankle injury that involved a fibula fracture.

“Isak’s rehabilitation will now proceed at the AXA Training Centre, although no timeline has been established for his return.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Conor Bradley

Conor Bradley made his comeback to the Liverpool squad against Spurs after being absent for the victory over Brighton.

However, the right-back had to be substituted at half-time as he seemed to strain his hamstring while pursuing Djed Spence when the Spurs defender advanced.

Slot commented: “With Alex and Conor, we need to be patient. You could see our bench today, but this is not the first instance. We are not the only team facing injuries during this period in England due to the high number of matches.

“It is quite common for teams to sustain injuries at this time. We’re still accumulating points, which is the most important aspect.”

Slot remains hopeful that Bradley’s injury is not severe.

Potential return date: Unknown

Florian Wirtz

The third injury concern for Liverpool arising from the victory over Tottenham was Florian Wirtz.

Wirtz provided an assist for Isak’s goal but was seen massaging his hamstring before being replaced by young player Trey Nyoni as the visitors managed the remaining time.

There was little information available regarding the German playmaker after the match, and his substitution seemed to be a precautionary measure as the Reds are already short in the attacking area.

Potential return date: Saturday, December 27 vs Wolves (H)

Jeremie Frimpong

Jeremie Frimpong made his first appearance in two months, returning from injury as a substitute in the 60th minute against Spurs.

He was then substituted again in the 89th minute after going down, but Slot eased any concerns about a new injury.

“No, there is no issue at all,” he stated. “I did not intend to stay down for 30 seconds.”

Potential return date: Saturday, December 27 vs Wolves (H)

Cody Gakpo

Cody Gakpo has now been absent from Liverpool’s last three matches across all competitions due to a muscle injury sustained during the 3-3 draw with Leeds.

However, ahead of the Spurs match, Slot indicated that Gakpo is showing significant improvement and may return sooner than initially anticipated.

“He [Gakpo] underwent a scan that yielded encouraging results, which alleviates our concerns compared to one or two weeks ago.

“This suggests he could potentially return a bit earlier than we thought two weeks back, but it certainly won’t be tomorrow or next week.

Expected return date: Late December/early January

Joe Gomez

Joe Gomez participated in Liverpool’s victory over Brighton but was forced to leave after just 26 minutes due to injury.

He fell off the ball and received brief medical attention before being assisted off by the club’s trainers.

This is yet another setback for the player, who has struggled with injuries throughout his career and has already missed significant time this season.

On Friday, Slot commented: “Joe is also not part of the squad for the weekend.”

Expected return date: Unknown

Wataru Endo

Wataru Endo’s injury was disclosed in a dual update alongside Gakpo.

While Endo may only play a minor role for Liverpool this season, his presence could have been beneficial as injuries accumulate.

Regrettably, it was confirmed before the Brighton match that the Japan international has suffered an ankle injury and will be sidelined for several weeks.

Slot stated: “It will take weeks [for Gakpo and Endo]. Cody has a muscle injury, and Wata has an ankle injury.”

Expected return date: January 2026

Giovanni Leoni

Giovanni Leoni sustained an ACL injury during his Liverpool debut in the Carabao Cup third-round victory over Southampton and is anticipated to be out for the entire season.

“He is certainly not in a good situation, as he has torn his ACL, which means he will be unavailable for a year,” Slot remarked about the young Italian. “Being so young, arriving in a new country, and performing so well in your first match… it’s incredibly difficult to find the positive aspects.

There is no silver lining – yet you consistently strive to find one, and the fact remains that he is still quite young, which means he has many years ahead of him once he recovers from such a serious injury.
