Liverpool injury news: Two players ‘doubtful’ for Aston Villa clash in further blow for Arne Slot…
Liverpool injury update: Two players are ‘doubtful’ for the upcoming match against Aston Villa, adding to the challenges faced by Arne Slot.
Alongside a dismal streak of results, Liverpool’s head coach Arne Slot is grappling with several injury issues within his team.
Giovanni Leoni remains the significant long-term injury concern, while Alisson Becker, Jeremie Frimpong, Alexander Isak, Curtis Jones, and Ryan Gravenberch have all encountered their own problems in recent days and weeks.
The Reds’ manager will be hoping to have some of these players available for the visit of Aston Villa to Anfield on Saturday night, although the Dutch right-back is definitely ruled out as he is expected to be unavailable until early December.
Liverpool injury updates prior to the Aston Villa match
In his latest Liverpool Confidential segment for Mail Sport, Lewis Steele shared an update on several of our currently injured first-team players, presenting somewhat mixed news for Slot.
Alisson is not anticipated to return in the next week, meaning he will also miss the clash against Unai Emery’s team, while Isak and Jones are listed as ‘doubtful’ to recover in time for that match.
However, as the Reds’ head coach had previously indicated, Gravenberch is on track to make his return for Saturday’s game, which would be a highly welcomed boost for the Premier League champions.
The injuries to Isak and Jones are particularly unfortunate
While every injury absence is far from ideal for Liverpool, the setbacks involving Isak and Jones are particularly ill-timed.
The Reds’ record signing had just returned to full fitness and had completed a couple of long-awaited 90-minute appearances when he suffered a groin injury during the 5-1 defeat of Eintracht Frankfurt last week, hindering his ability to build any significant momentum at Anfield.
Meanwhile, the local midfielder had been performing well and making a strong case for a regular starting position before he was forced off during the 3-2 loss at Brentford, a setback made worse by the simultaneous absence.
