Liverpool has received a significant boost in their pursuit of Marc Guehi.

Reports suggest that Liverpool could finalize the acquisition of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi for a reduced fee during the January transfer window.

The Reds were unable to secure the 25-year-old on deadline day despite having agreed on a £35m deal and completing his medical examination.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner allegedly threatened to resign if Guehi was sold, leading chairman Steve Parish to block the transfer.

This was disappointing for both Liverpool and the England international, who was likely eager to join the Premier League champions. However, there appears to be renewed hope for a future transfer.

According to Football Insider, the Reds are expected to be able to acquire Guehi for as little as £25m in January, as Palace is keen to avoid losing him for free next summer.

It has been reported that the centre-back will now be “available for at least £10m less than his original asking price in the new year,” with Liverpool planning to return for him in January “to fend off interest from other clubs.”

Is it just a matter of time before Guehi becomes a Liverpool player?

As disappointing as it was for Liverpool to miss out on Guehi, it was even more disheartening for the player, who was likely preparing for a new chapter at one of the world’s top clubs.

Nevertheless, Liverpool’s interest in the Palace captain seems persistent, and if they only need to wait until January to sign him at a lower price, it would still be a favorable outcome.

Guehi possesses all the qualities necessary to thrive at Liverpool, should he make the move, with the Eagles showcasing his skill on the ball, strong positional awareness, and ample time to further develop at the highest level.

Given that Ibrahima Konate has had a sluggish beginning to the season and will be a free agent next summer, the Reds should focus on acquiring a high-caliber centre-back to enhance depth and create competition for a starting position, making Guehi appear to be the perfect candidate to step in.
