Liverpool supporters are calling for Conor Bradley to be a starter in every match for the Reds following his remarkable performance against Real Madrid.
Arne Slot commended the ‘exceptional’ Liverpool player after their Champions League triumph over Real Madrid.
Conor Bradley received significant accolades from Liverpool’s manager on the evening Trent Alexander-Arnold made his return to Anfield.
Bradley was praised by Liverpool’s head coach Arne Slot for his ‘exceptional’ display in the Reds’ Champions League win against Real Madrid, having effectively neutralized Vinicius Jr.
After gaining attention online for his tackle on Kylian Mbappe in this fixture last season, the Northern Irish full-back was tasked with the challenging job of containing another speedy Los Blancos player at Anfield on Tuesday.
Although Vini Jr has not scored in his European matches this season, he has recorded nine direct goal contributions in 11 La Liga appearances, posing a potential threat to a Liverpool defense that has been unusually vulnerable this season.
The pressure on Bradley increased as this midweek match marked the first return of former Reds right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold to Merseyside since his move to the Bernabeu this summer.
Many Liverpool fans have expressed their opinions about Trent, but the right-back position has been a significant weak point in Slot’s defense since his departure, with both Bradley and the currently injured summer signing Jeremie Frimpong alternating in the starting lineup as they seek to find their form; utility player Dominik Szoboszlai has even been utilized as a temporary solution at times.
However, after Frimpong’s injury against Eintracht Frankfurt two weeks ago, Bradley has earned two consecutive starts in the Premier League, complementing his assist against Brentford with a clean sheet against Aston Villa last Saturday.
With Szoboszlai being utilized more effectively as a No10, the 22-year-old was granted his third consecutive appearance on a significant UCL night.
Rewarding his manager’s trust, Bradley appeared at ease from the very beginning and consistently interrupted Vinicius’s intricate runs with authoritative tackles throughout the evening.
His own advance even resulted in the Brazilian receiving an early yellow card for fouling him out of frustration.
After the match, Slot was notably effusive in his commendation of his right-back’s display.
Highlighting that “the entire team defended exceptionally well in both the high press and the low block,” Slot remarked specifically about Bradley: “Conor was exceptional.”
The Dutch coach further stated: “Facing Vinicius one-on-one repeatedly is not something just anyone can handle in a match like this, but [Bradley] performed remarkably today.”
Following that performance, Bradley is almost guaranteed to start on the right side of Slot’s defense again on Sunday, when Liverpool heads to the Etihad to face Manchester City.
