Liverpool eye Virgil van Dijk replacement in £60m Bundesliga deal that is already agreed…

Liverpool is looking for a replacement for Virgil van Dijk in a £60m deal with a Bundesliga club that has already been finalized.

At some point, Liverpool will have to find a substitute for Virgil van Dijk; have they pinpointed who that might be?

This decision has haunted Liverpool in the past and could potentially cost them again in the future.

With Mohamed Salah not contributing as many goals or creating as many opportunities for his teammates as he did last season, the defense needed to be solid. Instead, it has been just as inconsistent as the attacking line.

Both full-back positions have been problematic, and Virgil van Dijk has had to cover for the error-prone Ibrahima Konate for most of the season, with no viable alternative available due to injury concerns.

Liverpool made a mistake with Jarell Quansah.

The sliding doors transfer window saw the collapse of Marc Guehi’s transfer when Crystal Palace withdrew after allowing Jarell Quansah to join Bayer Leverkusen. If either transfer had gone through successfully, Liverpool wouldn’t be starting from scratch this summer.

According to Bild, as reported by Bulinews.com, Quansah is set to return to Anfield. Not this summer when his release clause is £80m, but next year when it will be “only” £60m, coinciding with the end of Van Dijk’s contract.

Richard Hughes has made many correct decisions, but Quansah could have easily been sent out on loan instead of Liverpool being £30m short to acquire a player who has long appeared capable of becoming a regular at Anfield, either as a center-back or right-back.

What Quansah has expressed about his time at Liverpool.

The 22-year-old has progressed significantly in the Bundesliga but attributes his development to his time at Liverpool, as reported by The Guardian: “I’ve always learned from some of the best players around me at Liverpool, and it’s been incredibly beneficial for my career,” he states. “However, as a young center-back, I need to play games, and I’m going to require hundreds of matches to reach my goals.

“I was simply seeking playing time, and at a club like Liverpool, that is not guaranteed due to the presence of world-class talent throughout the team.

I desired a place where they would have faith in my ability to occasionally make mistakes, yet recognize that I am capable of continual improvement and perseverance.”

While he may not be considered world-class at this moment, if he maintains his current trajectory of development, he will be very close to achieving that status.
